Tom,
I run 8 & 10 x 18, With no spacers 968 caster blocks and Rennbay geometry correction ball joint kit, PZero Corsas, full coil overs w/ 550# and 700# springs, no torsion bars. No problems, and it is streetable.

Proper formula for larger than 16" wheels on these cars, or you will tear up the 951 caster block bushings. Ask me how I know.

Been running 17" rims for years on/off the track with no problems.

Running 18" with updated caster blocks with no problems thus far (getting ready to track the hell out of it .. mu ha ha..)

What does the wheel size have to do with the castor blocks ? If the overall diameter of the tire/wheel combination is the same with 17s as the 16s and the car is not lowered, I'm having trouble seeing why the castor blocks themselves would "know the difference". The Porsche bulletin mentions that the castor spec has changed, and that the eccentrics need to be replaced too. That makes some sense, though I don't hear too much on this board about changing the eccentrics.

I'm about to do this upgrade and wanted to understand it a little better. Anyone know more about this subject ?

Deitz,

Sorry I missed you guys on the sixspeed cuise last weekend. My shoulder is healing nicely.

Factory lic. bracket rubber blocks and screws. Plate frame and cover was from Autozone or some other cheese wiz parts store.

Thanks for the compliment, Zackb911!

Greater unsprung weight is what makes the difference. Larger wheels and larger tires equal more weight.

I thought that running 17s wasn't a problem? Just curious why all of the comotion. I know that there is a bulletin. But people on this sight have been running 17s for years. Just curious.

It's not a problem per se, you just need to upgrade to 968 caster blocks and eccentric bolts if you plan on doing any serious turning at speed.

Great info about them on Tom Pultz's 944S2.com site. Here's what one looks like installed:

To get the full effect, do the eccentric bolts need to be replaced too ? They add another $120 to the upgrade.
