Default What is this plastic piece under intake manifold??

Have been having idle problems and was advised that i may have a leak under the intake manifold, so i pulled the intake manifold today and replaced all the clips with new jubilee clips, i was wondering what the plastic piece under there was and what its purpose is?? the centre of it on the hose coming in from the front of the car slides in and out of the main body and doesnt seem to seal or anything in there, is this normal?? could it be from this that i am sucking air into the engine??

Venturi tube.

Do a search there is a proceedure to delete it, as the later cars did not have one. I just did this myself and works with no problems.

venturi baby...........anyway many people here deleted it.

I would rather keep it since there was a reason for it to be there.......

what exactly is its function?? i pulled the centre part out of mine out and there doesnt seem to be anything holding it into the main body,it just slides in and out freely, it looks like there should maybe be an 'o' ring on there to seal it inside?? I have put intake back on for now as i need my car but surely if there is nothing sealing it in there then it is causing a leak on my car??

It's not flow really, just pulls vacuum. The brake-booster is a dead-end path with no flow anyway.

"what exactly is its function??"

The air flows past the straight part of the venturi from the intercooler-pipe to the intake-manifold. As it goes past the side port on the venturi, it tries to pull air from that line, thus generating a vacuum even with positive pressure in the intercooler-pipe and manifold. You should remove that O-ring and replace it with a new one. That's a common source of leaks and causes a fluctuating idle.
