Default Suggestions for making a DIN style pocket guage panel

I have decided to attempt to make a gauge panel that will fit in the DIN pocket or "sunglasses holder" area of the console. My decision is based on two reasons: (1) I have a remote whister radar currently in the OEM pocket and I intend on making a cut out on the panel; and (2) I may want the gauge panel to be polished aluminum (silver) to match the screws in my momo wheel and metal turbo shift insert. I have done several rennlist searches and have seen the panels by 9xauto and Lindsay racing - but believe I would be better off making the panel myself based on the radar cut-out and the fact that I would prefer to try the polished aluminum (silver). I am sure someone will chant in with a "rice" comment - I don't have a flashing LED shift ****, love the Audi TT's interior, and believe the silver adds to and modernizes an otherwise dull interior. Any suggestions on sources for plastic or a sheet of polished aluminum? Anyone have a stencil by chance? I appreciate all comments -Thanks -

Just start with cardboard till you get the right size and shape you want, then transfer that to the final material

I made mine out of a piece of black ABS plastic. It's really easy to machine and very cheap. If anything you could use this as a good template for the AL.

I've made a couple of them. One was for my boost and A/F ratio gauges, and the other is for my AVC-r. I used a sheet of aluminum that I got from a local hobby shop. I've never polished them, but it would be easy to do so. Mine got painted black with trim paint. One word for detail cutting: DREMEL!

Check the ricer-boards and suppliers. A DIN-sized gauge-panel is a common off-the-shelf item. You can get it in aluminium, titanium, carbon-fibre, leather-covered with the hide of your choice, ABS or PVC plastic, walnut, even glass!

Bring on the walnut!
Or perhaps balsa (don't know english word for it!?) wood like the top of the shifter in the Carrera GT.

I took a 968 pocket (it comes with a clock), removed the clock-and filled in the clock mount with Bondo. I then cut out for the boost gauge, and finished it by painiting the whole thing black. I still have the pocket (i use it), and I have a gauge panel that looks somewhat like the factory did it.

Thanks all for your responses - I was able to pick up a thin piece of polished aluminum at Lowes last night. I will attempt it this weekend. Jason_86_951 - I was a little confused by your post - do you have a stencil that you were attempting to upload? -

BTW the easiest/cheapest way to build that panel is to get a DIN black front made to use when a car stereo is not present.
You can pick one up for around $3-4 and the size is alreay perfect and as a bonus they have clamps on the inside that holds the panel in place.

I got a sheet of carbon fiber from a friend and will make one for myself. It has been on the list of stuff to do for a while
