Default Starting Problem

Car started for 3 seconds and died and wouldn't start again. I noticed fuel wasn't getting to the fuel regulater. Could it be the relay or pump and were is the pump located?
Thanks

It could be the DME relay which is in the fuse box in the engine compartment opposite side of the battery. Did you check the fuse for the fuel pump? The O2 sensor is on the same fuse which can cause problems if the wires contact the exhaust. The fuel pump is in the back under the fuel tank.

Hey guys, is there a good way to test the fuel pump or dme relay without having to go buy new ones?

yep, take out the DME relay and use two pieces of wire to jump pins 30 and 87 and 87b together. this should force the fuel pump to turn on and the car will start (only if the DME relay is the problem). if you go listen at the right rear wheel you'll hear the fuel pump whining if it's on.

Wanna send beab951 your bad relay? He's working on a solid-state relay with no moving parts to wear out. Only hard part is finding the case and connectors to fit. And gutting an old relay would be simplest.

Isn't there supossed to be a 996 part that is a retrofit for our cars? It's supossed to be updated to not fail (so oftern).

I'm posting this just in case it helps someone. My 951 had been little used for a couple of years although I started it up every now and gain to make sure all was well. One day it had same symptoms as 'first 951; starting up for a few seconds and then stopping. I tried looking inside the DME relay and cleaned up the contacts on the two relays with a sliver of fine abrasive paper. Symptoms were the same. Decided to pull of the connector plug to the throttle position sensor, cleaned it up a bit and then pushed it back on. Engine then started and ran normally. Not sure which make the difference but it is great to have fixed it for zero cost!
