Default head differences

what's the difference between a Turbo head and a na head and a S head and an S2 head and a 968 head?

I was just thinking that you could get the na head machined to Turbo specs for less than buying a turbo engine...

What about using an S head and making it line up with the Turbo or na block?

The S head ain't gonna work, period, and I believe the 968 head is designed for the 3.0L block, so that's out too.

Turbo and NA heads are "interchangeable", but they are not the same. Turbo heads have different valve seats and different valves. A turbo head "should" work on an NA, but I doubt an unmodified NA head would last very long on a turbo block.

I'm pretty sure that you can put an S head on a turbo or NA or even machine a na head to a turbo...

Hmmm, with enough time and money, you could make a chevy nova head fit on a 944 turbo engine.

Of course, with enough time and money, we could put a man on the moon (ooops, already done that!)

I thought it was a relatively simple job to put a 944S head on a 951 engine. Just a matter of lining up the water flow?

Nope, you then would have to engineer the intake, the exhaust, the turbo hookup, the intercoolers, and re-engineer the rats nest of plumbing that makes the 944 turbo work.

That's not to say that it cannot be done, but most of the high horsepower (>400 bhp) 944 turbos that I have seen use a 2V head... Even the 968 turbo used a 2V head.

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

True. Although there are some 16 vlave 3.0 951's running around -- with custom intakes, exhausts, etc...
