Default street pads (light track use)

I'm trying to order some new brake pads, but the search function is down and I really need to order soon. I'm looking at Mintex C-techs and the PFC Z-rated. About the same price, and seem to be descent for the street and good for a beginner DE'er. Anyone else have any suggestions?

TIA

Highly recommend Hawk HP+. They will pop your eyes out. A little noisy and a little dusty, but they really wake up the braking system. About $70 at Vertex

Hawk HP+ isn't too much pad for a novice?

Are they on the Vertex site, or do I have to call them to order?

In my opinion, they are great street pads with moderate track capabilities. The difference you will feel with them is greater than the difference of a big brake kit upgrade. They have that much more bite! Not too much for a novice, they are very easy to modulate.

Default Mintex C-Tech

I recently replaced Pagid's with Mintex C-Tech because of more street time. I think they are great. I haven't had them on the track, but I know a bunch of 911 guys that like them for DE duty.

My Pagids squealed like pigs. I couldn't get them hot enough on the street to stop the squealing. They were great on the the track though.

My Mintex pads have a very faint squeal on occasion. It is not bothersome and is virtually non-existant in comparison to my Pagids.

HP+ won't be too much for a novice, but you'll probably do fine with the HPS, which can work well in street traffic without squealing or glazing.

Look for Porterfield R4S. The R4 is fully Race. Beats the crap out of the Hawk Pads any day of the week.

Just an odd question, but is there actually any negative drawback to squeeling besides the noise?

Good question Kurt. Does anybody know what causes it?

I think the Stoptech website has good info on it - usually it is vibration related.

Generally No there are no drawbacks. Squealing brakes are the result of high frequency vibrations between the pad and the disk and the pad and the piston on the caliper.

The only thing squealing brakes will hurt is your pride.

Now, if you have no brake pads left then the noise is probably not squealing but grinding.
