6 speed or big bore upgrade

GT30 with a 3.0 and factory 968 turbo S 6 speed tranny. That is what I have in mine. Going to get it dyno tuned this coming friday. So lets see what she will do at 14.5 psi.
Tommo, 968 turbo S has a 6 speed. I have one of those trans in my car. They are not cheap, over $8500 with the exchange rate and tax. They are almost 10mph faster at the same engine rpm as the standard 968 6 speed. The gearing is completely different and so is the LSD (75% lockup). Much stronger to cope with the added power.

968 Turbo S
Hi Raj,
Thats quite interesting regarding your transmission. As I am based in Europe I may be able to get one a bit cheaper (Less freight and import duty) Do you have a part number?
My friends 968 Turbo is definately 5 speed though from the factory as he bought it direct from Porsche. Is yours an 8v or 16v?? as this one is 8v?
Cheers

What is the big deal about a 968 6 speed? For a street car? Not much gain really.
For high hp race car go with the 6spd 968 unit. Stronger and better selection of gears to choose from. I believe they also use (or can be swapped with) the same diff units as in current GT3 racers.
Chris Cervelli ran one in is 3.0 450+ hp 944 Turbo race car. If he raced with one and recommends it as stronger then I would tend to believe him.
Only nice feature of the 944 Turbo unit is the external oil cooler.

Tommo, that is impossible. There was no such thing as a 968 turbo S 5-speed. He must have changed it at some point. mine is an 8 valve as well.
I will snap some shots of my turbo S trans and post them.
