Default Brake squeal - do anti-squeal inserts help?

My brakes are squealing badly. On Pelican I've found these anti-squeal pad inserts:

http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/...pg8.htm#item40

Does anyone have experience with these? Are those OEM Porsche?

Anything else I could do to minimize the squeal? (The pads are still fine, lots of meat left.)

Thanks!

Gary.

Well, I've now removed the front brake pads, and they are very glazed on the surface. I guess that contributes quite a bit to my brake squeal?

My plan now is to:

1) sand the pads to remove the glaze (which grit should I use?)
2) file a 45 degree bevel in the pad edges
3) apply brake cleaner to the rotors
4) reinstall

There are currently no vibration dampeners installed. Should I try one of those "Brake Quiet" sprays that they sell at Autozone, or is that stuff snake oil?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Gary.

No experience with those "Brake Quiet" sprays you are talking bout. But I know that anti-squeal pad inserts helps... a lot.

The anti-squeal stuff did not work for me. I switched to metal master pads at the advice of others, and they heldpd quite a bit. Make sure your rotors are straight and smooth too. If memory serves, I ended up putting grease on the back of the pad as suggested by others, although it sounds crazy as I sit and think about it.

I put some of the silicon grease behind mine, helped quite a bit. My main problem is my rotors are slightly warped I think.

I had stock Porsche pads which squealed often, particularly when cold and driving slowly with gentle braking.
Changed to Mintex M1144 all round. They come with a self adhesive soft backing that you apply ( is that the same as an anti squeal insert) to the back of the pad. Haven't heard a peep out of them since.

After you reinstall go out and do some really hard braking.
70-80 to 0 right on the verge of lock-up. Allow them to cool between
each stop. Do this 3 or 4 times.
My new pads squeeled on slow stops until I did some 60 - 0 brake testing and the havent squeeled sense.

Well, so tonight I put the left front brake pads (they were squealing the most) back in, after sanding, beveling, and applying "Disk brake quiet" to the pad backing. Great success! The squealing is pretty much completely gone. Now all I have to do is repeat this on the front right side...

It is _so_ awesome without the brake squeal!

I just have to bring up a "trick" I heard many years ago as a last resort to reduce/remove brake squeal, namely to drill a few tiny holes in the pad material and insert pencil lead (graphite).
I have no first hand experience with this method and it probably reduces friction (increase in pedal pressure).

B951S: Yeah, I hope it stays quiet!

But even if the squeal comes back after say 500 miles - it only takes 15 minutes to repeat the treatment... I guess I'll do a monthly brake service Still better than putting up with the squeal!

Mine squeel really bad. One night at like 2AM I am test driving my car after some maintinence, and I am at a gas station putting in race gas.... as I am paying the attendant says "dats a purty Porsche. Too bad dem brakes squeel so loud"
I look him straight in the eye and say: "They're racing pads"
and he goes "...ooooooh."
My point?
Get a new Honda.

Sorry, point not taken.

Brake squeal is not a design feature. These brakes are designed to be quiet on OEM pads. If they are not, then something is wrong. If something is wrong, I try to fix it.

But that's just me.

It was a joke, nothing personal

I personally like squeeky brakes. A good aggressive pad (read: Pagid Orange) will squeel really loudly all the time... doesnt mean theres anything wrong with it. Hope you gets yours sorted out though, and if ya do, lemme know how
