Default FS: 86 '951 - 83k all recs - $7.9k

I am looking to sell my '86 951. Located in CA. Details below:

Alpine white/brown. 83k miles. Pristine condition with no accidents or paintwork. All original with complete service records since new including window sticker. Just completed major service with timing belt, balance shaft belt, rollers, water pump, and all fluids. Cold A/C. Well maintained, original, strong running car.

The minor issues: cracked dashboard, idle sometimes too high (1500 rpm), temp guage not accurate.

Serious buyers are welcome to have the car inspected at reputable shop.

Too many nice cars. Great deal in my opinion.

Idle issue fixed.

Hmm . . . no interest. Guess everyone here already has one. I thought this was more than a fair price for such an original car. Tough market nowadays I guess.

I think the price is fair, it's just a matter of the right buyer finding you.

911,

The inaccurate temp gauge probably scares a few guys away. It's probably just a ground issue if all of your battery cables are original. I've seen it a dozen times and $22 in parts at NAPA and a couple hours tends to solve it. But it does sound like an decent deal. There are better and worse deals out there with yours being on the better end. A friend of mine just picked up a 31K mile 88 in like-new condition for 12K. Not the norm, he's just a lucky bastard. Good luck. E-bay might be a better alternative.

Only problem for me is the color combo...

Good luck on the sale though.

Question

Why not post some pics of the car here, warts (if any) and all. This would help with word of mouth advertising, as many of us have friends who've admired our cars and may want one themselves.

The temp guage issue will be fixed. It bounces all over the place. Most likely a ground issue. I will clean the contacts and hopefully that takes care of another issue. I know it is not running hot because the temp guage actually goes down the longer you drive it (in stop and go driving).

I know this is not the ideal place to sell the car because everyone already has one. I have always sold my cars through Autotrader. This was just a long shot. I hate ebay because if the winner bidder backs out of deal then the seller is still obligated to pay the listing fee. Also a lot of idiots on ebay.

I have not posted pics because everyone here already knows how a mint, stock Alpine white 951 looks. And pictures are deceiving anyways. Anyone that is serious will see it in person and verify the condition. Believe it or not the brown interior color does not look bad in person. Hey, the new special edition Boxster S uses a similar brown interior color.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Sure, everyone knows what a White 951 looks like, BUT pictures still help a lot; especially if you are in SoCal, and trying to sell it to someone in NY, or NC, or Florida. Saying the interior is brown is not like SHOWING the interior. Same for the pristine condition, engine bay, etc.

You mentioned eBay. How many times on eBay does the writeup say one thing, and the pictures say something else?

I watch eBay all the time. I just haven't found exactly what I'm looking for, so I keep looking there, and Autotrader, and Cars.com mainly. If your car is as described, it should do ok on eBay: most good, low-miles 951s seem to bring around $9K.

Good luck.

This car was sold with the LSD tranny. I still have the perfect original turbo transmission w/ cooler that only had 60k miles when removed for the LSD unit. Anyone interested for around $500-600. Located in SoCal. Pickup for $500. Also set of 968 M030 swaybars w/factory sport bushings in perfect shape. $300/obo. If no one is interested, these items will go on ebay. Thanks.
