Default Removing Inner Tie Rod from Steering Rack

I have never been able to separate the tie rods from the steering rack. What's the trick here? On Pelican and Clark's there's talk about a taper, is this the taper? Do I tap/bend this out?

that is essentially the same as a washer or nut that is staked in place. you have to hammer that bent piece out of the groove.
then you can grip the rack itself with a pipe wrench to counter-hold as you loosen the tie rod.
