Thanks to fellow Rennlister, Dan87951, who posted some pics of the front of his engine regarding balance shaft timing. I looked at his pics and noticed something that is different than the engine from my 86 951. Here's his pic with the "doo-dad" in the red box and here's my pic (the engine is upside down on an engine stand so I flipped the picture. You're eyes aren't playing tricks on you ;-)

So I guess my quesions are A) What is it? and B) Why don't I have one?
