Arrow Superchips

I came across this compnay when I first got the 951, mostly becauae they are 10 min from me. I was going through my old word docs and had copy/pasted the below. Now they only do stuff for trucks/turbo diesel, etc. Mostly the OBDII types.

A funny thing now, one of my buddies works for a company and the owner is friends with the owner of Superchips. He found this out the other week when they all went out for wings and beer. He told them about my car and he said they were very interested in it and seeing it. I told him "well, two years ago when I called them and asked if they still did chips for 951, they couldn't get rid of me fast enough."

Well, back then their numbers didn't carry a lot of weight with me as I was new to the turbo world, but now, if they can back these numbers up, it is pretty impressive the results they got.

"Simply reprogramming the overboost cutoff out of the standard system allows the use of up to 17 PSI and at full throttle the car feels dramatically quicker. The boost control computer limits the boost level so that only low boost is available unless full throttle is used. We reprogrammed it so that more boost is available on part throttle which gave the car terrific responsiveness under part throttle driving conditions. The car came alive and seemed willing and eager to go. Slight changes in throttle position had the car accelerating rapidly moreover the boost control was so progressive it allowed the driver to have real control over his vehicle. The part throttle response alone was considered a vast improvement in the car.
To ensure that the engines' life was not reduced in any way, the boost pressure was limited to 14 PSI. This increase gave 281 HP on the 220 HP engine and 315 HP on the 250 HP engine. On the 220 HP engine the peak torque increased from 243 lb. ft at 3500 RPM to 325 lb. ft at 4100 RPM. The safety aspects of the boost control unit are not changed in any way and if the computer detects any pinging it will still reduce the boost and retard the ignition. You should still use the best quality fuel you can get for this car though as less than premium will reduce the power available. The cold starting and in town running remain the same and there is no down side to the conversion. "

All that on 14psi???? So add about 30 more hp/tq to the wheels for thier 17psi runs.

When I know he is going to be meeting with the owner again, I will make sure I have this printed out and see if he still stands by their results.

That's average results - their numbers are at the flywheel, whereas most of the numbers the tuners on here kick around are at the wheels.

Well I can confirm that there are no improvements to the fuel or ignition maps. I actually didn't notice any improvement at all while driving until I put a leak valve to the wg.

I have a set of superchips from the early 90's that I'll let go of for next to nothing if anyone wants to play with them.

Really? The fuel-mapping isn't changed greatly from stock, but there are significant changes in the ignition maps on the SuperChips.

hey Danno!!

How do they get "GURU LIKE" gains ???

and their numbers are only at 14psi???

Also interesting to see that even way back then, they broke the "15psi glass cieling" as they state they run up to 17psi, but only run 14psi to be safe.

"How do they get "GURU LIKE" gains ??? and their numbers are only at 14psi???"

Let's see some dyno-charts. As we've already seen from 3rd party dyno-testing, APE chips give only 1/2 the claimed +50hp increase. Also the fuel used is important. You can easily extract another +5-10hp from the GURU chips by using map#3 for 100-octane race-gas only. But that's only worth bragging rights as most people aren't on a 100% race-gas diet and 5-10hp isn't something you're gonna really feel. But it looks good on a dyno-chart and marketing literature.

I wonder if these SuperChips are worth anything, compared to what is available on the market today?
I have those chips and they make +23hp to my otherwise stock setup (dynoed both stock and this "before and after"). +23hp is OK, but the fuel economy is pretty bad. 9 litres per 100km is the minimum I have reached. 10 l/100km is the average.
Anyway it's pretty far away from that they claim to be the fuel economy on a stock car.
I'm not so sure if this +23hp is worth the fuel economy...
Are todays chips any better?
The SuperChips have been in my car for about six years now, so I find them pretty liable tough...

Well, there you go Danno. You were right!! Now I really want to meet the owner and let him know about the big fat 23hp gain.

I have superchips currently. There is a dyno chart on my web site. This is with a bad wastegate that would only hold 12psi at the most and only for a moment.

Bryan, those numbers are pretty good. A lot of torque and very clean a/f.
