I am looking into the pick mod as well, what I have is not the Lindsey kit but a similar item that a friend made for me.

The pick up mod seems to be a stainless ring welded to the screen ?

This whole # 2 bearing problem is very interesting. It seems from reading these many posts, that there appears to be no known reason. From one post it appears that the addition of the so called Air Separator solved the problem. This part is not a separater, but in fact an Oil Filter. If the Oil Filter was the cause, it would not just happen to # 2. Every one has a different opinion it seems. Does this problem happen on baffled Pans or is it just on the Stock unmodified Pans?

Yes it consists of a band that gets welded to the tip of the tube (screen is what is called i guess), helps picking up more oil.

M42,
Yes it does seem everyone has a different opinon on this subject. For me the separator solved the problem so far. BTW it is NOT an oil filter. It is exactlly what it is intended for. It has a series of conical screens that the oil gets thrown against separating the air or foam out of the oil. If the new carrara GT comes with an oil/air separator then its good enough for me. The are many different types of oil/air separators made mostly by the aerospace industry, do a search if you want to learn more.

So where does the air go?

BTW,

951S, i really do think you have an Oil Filter. These units are used by many as filters, as they were made for exactly that job. If it was a seperator, it would not be plumb as you have it, and it would have a third line venting al that seperated air off to the breather or catch tank. If oil goes in from the Filter Housing thro your part and off to the Cooler, you have a filter. That is what the conical screens are for. You can remove them, clean them , just like many other Oil Filters. Think about where the air is going. Or not!

If anyone wants info on the Air/Oil Seperator, I just noticed that Lindsey Racing now caries it, and they run it on the Yellow race car... Look at the pics you can see it next to the Intercooler...

I'm wondering if the oil pick-up support tube could be a contributing factor. It doubles as the opening for when oil is put into the engine. Rest of the time it's partially filled with oil to whatever the pan's oil level is at. See how close it is to the pick-up screen. Hard cornering could then be lowering that pipe's residual oil level to the point where the suction of the pump is enough to grab some air from that pipe.
