Question Losing Boost................Could be gauge hookup?

Symptom1-stock car and only getting 5lbs. of boost according to the VDO gauge.

Symptom2-I hear a faint hissing in the cabin and and nothing outside. Upon inspection of VDO gauge it appears to be hooked up correctly but it definitely hisses constantly. The hissing doesn't change pitch wether on boost or off. Gauge read 12 lbs consistently 2 weeks ago when I last drove the car.

Has anyone else had a problem with a gauge or the hookup?

Check the plastic boost line that connects into the KLR box, could have worked loose. You definitely have a leak somewhere! Did you T into the boost line that comes into the KLR box for your boost gauge? Check all your connection again and report back.

Boost line seems tightly T'd into the KLR. I zipped tied it and it won't budge w/out a lot of force. The back of the gauge connection seems loose and thus I beleive the prob. Did you use some sort of teflon tape or something to keep the connection tight?

Ok, here's a spare set of the connectors that seem to be the problem. The tubing doesn't fit securley inside of the connectors and is the source of the hissing sound.

Any ideas on how to tighten up this connection? Teflon tape?

That fitting should work if it's correctly sized without any sealant.

This could be causing the low pressure reading on the gauge(s) +the hissing sound, but it will have little to no effect on how much boost the engine sees, and thus the car should drive just fine.

Dude, that's so not what I want to hear. It hits boost but it's not the surge that the car had before. It's like Boost Lite.

Check the connection @ the manifold, and vac/boost lines to the FPR, the diverter valve, etc.

This could give a wrong readout to the KLR, I suppose that could have an effect on possibly ignition timing, but that's a stretch. I think your problem is elsewhere, perhaps at one of the places I've suggested.

Let us know how it turns out.

Maybe a good time to replace the vacumm hoses while I'm checking. Who had the kit besides Lindsey? Was it Vitesse?

Scott, just bought a kit from a vendor on ebay - hightempsilicone, put it on the racecar. Same stuff as Hose Techniques, same size in the kits(3.5mm, 4mm, 6mm) and 30% cheaper. Do a search, seller - hightempsilicone. Bought a red kit from LR too but Jim is going to put the red on his streetcar.

I would piece together lines myself, there's nothing special about them. Infact, most likely the black plastic pieces are just fine, and the rubber tri-y connections or the elbow connections are the only things you need to be replacing. I would recommend mercedes parts. They're very durable and cheap, these are also fairly cheap dealer options. If you choose to replace the black lines too, those are also commonly available and cheap. I would imagine $30 tops would cover everything, if not less. Save your money.

Thanks guys. How many feet and which sizes should I look for?

Also have to find a way to make the connection to the boost gauge tighter.
