Default Blow Off Valve

I just realized our cars don't have a blow off valve do they? I remember my old talon did and it made that cool koooosh sound between shifts. Seems like blow off valves are a good thing, anyone modifying their cars to use one? Is that new technology that wasn't around in 86?

Why of course they do.

It's the round plastic thingy with a vacuum fitting right next to the coolant expansion tank.

Most folks replace it with new fangled versions or the SAAB part, but the stock part has been superseded to the 993 Turbo BOV, which is what I went with.

it's set up as a recirculating valve..instead of just a wussh rice sound air is actaully recirculated into the turbo inlet helping spool/boost between shifts..better than wuuuushhh...

just fyi i don't think many if any stock turbo cars would not have the blow-off recirculated into the intake. by old talon/eclipse did, and it still made the cool sound. it's the aftermarkets that vent to the atmoshere and waste the pressure. i'll take another look, but i didn't ever recall seeing any piping that looked like any kind of blow off valve.

jyoon, Did your Talon have an open element air filter? This typically reveals the wooosh sound. My 951 did not start making the sound until I installed my MAF with the open air filter.

Karl, you are a brave man to do the amount of engine work you did last winter on such short notice. I for one was impressed by how you just took it in stride and bit the bullet to get your 951 running again. Hats off to you.

you need a maf, the flapper door will keep it from making the sound.

Thanks Luis, i actually also just finished my first clutch job by myself as of yesterday. The rear main seal and rear balance shaft cover were leaking oil like crazy, the car would billow smoke when sitting at a stop sign, let alone the poor poor people who had to drive behind me. Just ask sh944 how fun it was to drive behind me in a convertible 968 It was a long process, with a few hang ups, but i learned some great tricks to make things go back together better. Thanks to sh944 for letting me use his garage for a few weeks! I didn't know that you could peel out in a 951, the clutch must have been slipping so bad before, and i just didnt notice it.
Here is an updated picture of my engine bay anyways, minus the new fuel lines. It is great driving a car that doesnt require a gas mask anymore!

Looking super. Keep it up. Yes, Scott H. is the very definition of what a "Rennlister" ought to be.

jyoon, I guess you're familiar by now with the 951 BOV.

My stock car along with stock BOV make a slight woosh at times, not a WHOOOOOOOOOOOOSH WHOOOOOOOOOOOSH like aftermarket open vent valves though.
