I’ve had the plastic part of the balance weight break and splinter into bits. This was original engine. Some remained in balance shaft housing and some went down to the pan. As far as I could tell it was just plastic bits. I discovered it after I spun a bearing on a track day and disassembled engine. No idea if it caused the bearing issue or not. Could have been like that for a while but who knows.

Just check condition of plastic parts (don’t know if they have a name).
