John, I have driven far too many of them to buy that. In stock form they are a pig. Your friend must be a great driver if the car looks good on track.

Like I said, hella fun though. I was just thinking about getting an NA the other day. Figure that it is easy enough to turbo those and since every part of the car would be upgraded made less sense to start with the cheaper version.

BTW - hows the weather? Highs today in the low 70s here, HAHAHAHAHA....

it wasent that bad today because of the wind. We have been steadily in the high 80's with humidity in the 75% range. It kinda sucks. I think his only(chassis) mods were tires but, I would have to speak with him to make sure. I think the only differencies with the na and the turbo is the head and compresson ratio. Ofcourse a new headgasket could be used to lower the compression ratio. Stock NA's are like 9.0 I think? Don't quote me. The same motor's are in the lexus sc300's. I have two frineds with turbo sc300's.....they can take crazy amount's of boost since they use the supra engine as well. I raced scott(turbo sc300) when he was running 17psi of boost through his t66 turbo. He has a massive front mount along with motec standalone,1000cc injector's...ect...ect. He has had some tuning issues......so that's prolly the reason I was able to pull him. We went from 50-150mph.....I prolly had like 8-9 car's by 150. I was still surprised I pulled him though. He put down 370rwhp on a bar running a little rich..so I think he prolly was like 400rwhp on 17psi. Ofcourse those things are pigs. I think he said he weighs in at 3700lbs. Ouch! I think when he get's his tune finished and is pushing his desired 23psi...he will be walking me badly.

p.s. how hard would it be to set a Greaseslinger's HG replacement up? I have decided that when my gasket's come in that I want to try and learn to do it myself.....or atleast learn how to do it.

To go back to the original question:

If we assume that the 550 are cranck HP, power to weight for this car is 3.400 lbs/ 550 hp= 6,2 Lbs / hp

On a street version of a 951, wheighing in at roughly 3100 kbs this means 500 HP (crank). This will be expensive.

Funny enough, 6,2 is the number I aim at for my 951 racer. With a weight of 2325, and a power of 375, these figures are well within reach.

So: Loose the weight!

Hans how in the world did you get your 951 down to 2325?

and how do you think I could shed a couple of hundred poundes the easiest......and least expensive.

Yea, but reducing weight seems more expensive than modding the engine. So, I guess there's no chance for me right now...lol

Silverbullet with the vitesse stage 3 and a few other mods....look at my list..you will be in that range..just make sure you use 95 and up octane at boost over 16 to be safe....now that acceleration style wil be different but if you know how to drive it right......Supras are pigs...it was the secon'd heavyest import behind the 3000 gt vr4 and no where near nimble..good grip though and loads of power and toyota reliability..just don't get cought in the rain at boost.

It's possible, but not on pump gas .

They have a lot more displacement on us to make that kinda power on pump gas.

David, yes I do but they are not to be shared here. PM me and I will give you some details. Very few, but I will give you the owners name and he is happy to talk about them to the right people.

Not that hard. Might go down there and help James with his PS to manual rack conversion, get to know everyone, then ask for their help. Really good group of guys.

When it comes to making big HP, I think the Supra Turbo MK-IV is about the best you can get. The engines are built tough and can take lots of boost. The Car in itself is heavy, 3500-3600#.. However it feels lighter!
Also, when setup correctly, they are fairly fast on the track.
The 951 is lots of fun to drive on the track, very rewarding...
I have a local customer that will be installing a Stage 3 on his 951, and he just purchased a TT Supra which he intends on modifying as well. Hopefully we will be able to compare in more details the cars when done.

Here is the question for you guys, say you do put down that 500 rwhp on a 951, with a limited slip even in, wouldn't you peel out until like 80 or 90 mph? It just seems to me like you would have to put some really huge tires in the rear plus racing slicks to use that power slower. Maybe I am wrong but I know with my car in the winter months with anything lower the 50 degrees F that I can peel out 1st and 2nd when boost kicks in hard.

I know this guy over here in Dubai (not personally) who can do a quarter mile with his supra in 6.3 seconds with nitro. 7.8seconds without nitro. In an interview, he said that the car went to germany for tuning and then went off to Japan for chassis upgrades. He even admitted that the car cannot be driving on a track, just drag racing. He spend AED1,800,000 ( around $480,000!!!). I have pics, would post if i can get the scanner working. But this is to show that if you have the money and the patience, you can do just about anything with your car.
