Opinions on 16x8 all around
I am thinking about buying a second set of wheels for the track. They won't be used with race tires yet as I am just a novice. I just want something that I can use so that I don't ruin my nice Fuchs.
I have come across a set of 4 16x8" Phone Dials. Is it wise to go for 16x8" all around? It will add a little front grip and allow for front to back rotation.
Any opinions on this setup versus stock 16x7F and 16x8R? Also what tire sizes are recommended.
Thanks all,
Max

Hey Kevin, we had corresponded about your wheels but the offset issues ended that. Is it only appropriate for auto-x or is it suitable for DE events as well?
Thanks,

Ive run 8x16 phone dials on all four corners of various 944s for 10 years, from DEs to Club Racing. Its the best way to go with 16" whls. The benefit is the ability to rotate all 4 front to back and side to side, so you get better wear from the tires than if you are limited to side to side only.
You can run 245s on all 4, so there is little to nothing gained by going to 9s in the back, because 245/45 is still the only good option for tire size (255/50s have too tall of a sidewall and increase the final drive ratio too much, ie: hurts acceleration).

I also run 4 16X8 phone dials all around and like the setup very much for all the same reasons everyone else has stated.
I bought a complete set of '86 offset phonedials for $511 on ebay that were in excellent condition which gave me four 8X16 rims and four 7X16 rims. I then sold the 7X16's to a 944NA guy for $350. These were all pristine condition rims. So not quite the same as buying a pair of 8X16's alone but I ended up paying about $160.
