install of fpr
I've searched the forums but cant seem to find any directions on installing the fpr. I bought a 3.0bar fpr and i have no idea how to install it. Since this is really the first car I have done any of my own work to i'd like to know what the hell i'm doing before gas spills everywhere and the such. Can someone help me here?

Take the DME relay out (G5?), crank the engine for a few seconds (it wont start) to depressurise the fuel system. Then undo stuff!
PS still put a wrag underneath as there is usually some pressure still there.

A fuel pressure regulator R&R is straight forward. First, however, have you made other mods to the car to require a 3 bar FPR? If the car is otherwise stock, the 3 bar FPR will not improve performance, and could hurt performance. The FPR is held on by 2 10mm bolts, the gas hose, and the vacuum line I usually remove the end cap from the fuel rail, and catch the gas in a shop towel (with the engine cold and the battery disconnected). That will get rid of the pressure in the line. Then undo the FPR bolts and hose, and pull it out of its fitting. A new o-ring with a light coating of ATF should be used when installing the new one. Have a fire extinguisher handy too.

It's been a while since I did mine, but I don't remember pulling the relay. I did disconnect the battery and let it sit overnight. FPR install is pretty easy - disconnect the hoses from the old one, swap units, and install the hoses on the new unit. You'll probably get a little fuel leakage so have some shop towels there to catch any spill. The FPR location is circled in yellow in the pic below (yeah I know, the engine is dirty - but this is an old picture).

Be sure you depressurize. I don't think the instructions in my chip kit emphasized this and the gas in my eyes and the fuel spray on my hot engine was not fun. My fault though, I should have known it was under lots of pressure.

Depends if you want to wait around for a day... doing the relay thing is very easy to do and takes the pressure out of the system. I guess I am impatient. But it works.
