Excuse the enthusiasm of the commentator. But this was a magnificent lap in terms of achievement. While this car bears little resemblance to it's original form, it is still a derivation of a Porsche 968. To understand the significance of the lap time, here are a few comparisons. So a well driven street 944 turbo on soft rubber (aka Buchanan Automotive's 944t with 3lt 16v turbo) did a 1:42. I think a well driven 992 GT3RS might be just under the 1:40 bracket. The Cup car record is 1:30 and the GT record is 1:27. My car did a 1:31 and has a 1:28 in it on street legal soft rubber. Gustaf's (aka Duke) amazing 968 did a 1:25 iirc. The outright lap record for this track was by Nico Hulkenberg in an A1 GP car (sort of poor man's F1) with a 1:19 which was out of reach for many years. Rod (aka 'Thingo' on Rennlist) has been building his car for some years now. To finally get the planets to align and see a 1:17 in what we call a 'Tin top' race car down here is amazing and a testament to his dedication and single mindedness to achieve greatness. This car needs to be recognised atop the lineage of Orca, the Blue Monster and other fabled 944/68 derivatives.
Here is the lap. From the outside and then in car. It looks sped up but it isn't. Turn 1 at Sydney Motorsport Park is a long and very fast 90o left hander. It's interrupted by a few significant bumps. The car has massive aero which has higher downforce than an F1 open wheeler. Ordinarily Barton Mawer, the driver, holds it flat through this turn. Somewhere around 280kph / 170mph. Mind numbingly brave and fast! However there had been a considerable oil down and this was covered with plenty of concrete dust or whatever they use. So this lap was definitely compromised by external issues. There's a .16 in this car for sure. Amazing!! Congratulations Rod. Unbelievable result.

Burning Brakes
My engine bay is at the end. Contemplating selling the project as a whole, over 60k invested over time and no time to finish or pay to park in storage . EVERYTHING IS NEW -
