Default My New Toy!

I am officially a member of the 951 money pit club (ha ha), rennlist as well. I just sealed the deal this evening on the 951 you guys have graciously answered questions on. It will be delivered later in the week (right foot is twitching), so I will keep you posted on when it arrives. The PPI revealed only one major problem and that is a slight leak (not major) in the steering rack. Everything else checked out good on the car. The compression test tes revealed the following numbers: #1 - 125. #2 - 125, #3 - 125, #4 - 115. The #4 cylinder is a little bit lower than the rest and I think that driving it more than the PO may help. If not, then I will look into it further.

The worst part is just waiting for the car to arrive! If any of you guys have a Fabspeed exhaust and cat bypass, I would like to get some feedback on the system. I have been looking at GHL and B&B as well. Currently I am leaning toward the Fabspeed. Anyway, the steering rack is the first item on the list at the time.

Thanks for all the input from the guys that gave me some insight on the 951. I have been a BMW wrench the last few years (moneypit #1) so I think it will be fun to tinker with this 951 until it is ready for the track.

Here is a pic.....

Michael, beautiful car, did it come out of California? Oh, and not from my experience, but it seems like a lot of people here swear by SFR exhaust.

The car is from Encinitas, CA. Excuse my ignorance, but what does SFR stand for?

I like my fabspeed, the sound is a little loud, but i like that. Sounds like a V8 at idle and a nascar car under full throttle. The tip is nice too. Nice car!

Bill Nolte, right? I got information and pictures on the car, if you didn't buy it after your PPI today I was going to send someone to look at it, and put down a deposit if it checked out. VERY nice car, great condition, congratulations! SFR is Speed Force Racing, http://www.speedforceracing.com/, supposed to be really good stuff, and I think one of the guys is a Rennlister (TurboTim?). Do a search, I think you'll find plenty.

You are correct. He is a really good guy to deal with. I think he took care of the car from the looks of the interior pics and after the PPI results. The color combination of white/black is what I was looking for, stock as well. The bonus is that it has LSD and the transmission cooler. Most of the white cars I have seen either have a blue or burgundy interior.

I hope you have good luck in your search of a 951.

There's a Michigan gang caravanning to the 944fest, July 3-4th, Southern Ohio. You should try to make it!!

Nice car!

I agree Mike, it was a great looking car that had been well taken care of. Are you having it shipped to Michigan, or are you going to drive it home?

Unfortunately I am having it shipped. I have never been out to Cali and would have loved to fly out there and drive it back. I think the road trip would have been really enjoyable in the 951. We are in the process of moving to D.C. so I will have the car shipped there while I am still in Michigan (I have to deal with two other cars at the moment). The hardest part of this - I might not be there when the car arrives! If the timing is right and be present for the delivery, then I will be one happy man.

I guess the only real positive may the fact that I won't be putting the miles on it. Then again, a car like this needs to be opened up and breath all through the rev range, especially at high speeds. Maybe it would help that #4 cylinder a little.

By the way. I am looking to use Nationwide Auo Transport and Carrier. If any of you have suggestions or good experience with another carrier, please let me know. (Also considering Cross Country Transport)

Congratulations. You want someone to be there when the car arrives so they can inspect it. Once its off the truck, they are no longer responsible for any damage that might have occured en route.
