Track car pictures (lots of pics)
Several asked about my track car and I had the chance to take some pictures over the last two weekends at track events (Mid-Ohio and Putnam Park). While at Mid-Ohio last weekend the odometer rolled over 19,000 miles (that's not a typo). The car has been setup to run in PCA 'E' stock - if all goes well we'll be racing the car later this year.
I use three sets of Forgline wheels (1 for rain tires & two sets to rotate Hoosiers on). I really like the wheels and would encourage anyone needing wheels to contact Dave Schardt (www.forgeline.com or Phone: 888.643.6051/937-299-0610 ) - it's a great product, well priced and backed by phenomenal service.

eclou,
The cage was custom built by Steinels in Ohio and wrapped in red leather padding (notice the baseball style stitching - the previous owner was overly attentive to detail).
All of my wheels are 18s; I don't have the exact figures with me on the weights but they're approx 20lbs each.
Cheers,
Rick

Mike - I rarely drive it on the street; it spends 99% of its time on the track. Why don't we schedule a 951 gathering and have a cold one? I know Sam would be up for it and I'm sure there are other 951 folks around town.
Brad - you can get centercaps for these wheels; the reason I don't have them on is that they have to be removed for racing so I just leave them off all of the time. These are great wheels. You can have them in a variety of finished or powder coated in any color you can imagine. I personally favor the antracite color.
hosrom_951 - it's an AIR front spoiler that was put on by the previous owner. He had the cage custom built by Steinels (which I believe is in the Cleveland, OH area).
I bought the car with the cage already in it - I've done all of the suspension work (see signature for details), put in the Recaro seats and a few other goodies. I was at Putnam Park yesterday and think we've got things fairly well setup - we were turning laps in the 1:20:50 to 1:21:00 range fairly consistently which is only about 1 second than last year's best qualifying laps for E stock cars at the PCA race.
We're having a blast!!!

Hey Rick,
I recognize that car! In fact I remember about 20 laps of "tandem" driving with you at Mid-Ohio last weekend. It really is a great looking 951. My 89 951 is almost matching except for all black interior and roll bar only config. Only 60K miles but looks a little old next to yours. I'm thinking about finishing the transformation with a full cage and getting ready for E-stock next year as well.
I think at our best we were running 1:47s that weekend. Pretty good -times I'm thinking. I did look at PCA results for last year at Mid-Ohio and Dave Schardt was qualifying with a 1:42 and change. Yikes! can't see where almost 6 seconds can be saved right now. You got any ideas?
Jim H.
BTW- Hope I didn't crowd you during that last session on the front straight before going into turn one. I heard your car get up on the rumble strip when I was next to you. Apologies If I played a role in that.

Jim - last weekend was a blast; my best time was 1:44:18 and I'm pretty puzzled where to find another 3-4 seconds. Interestingly enough when comparing my Putnam times from yesterday (new Hoosiers) I was about 2 seconds off of the qualifying times by...guess who?Steve Schardt - must be a family thing.
No apology needed; I took my eyes off of where they needed to be for a split-second and wound up a few feet off line on the exit; it was my mistake.

1:44s! Great! Any chance you were cutting 1:44s when we were following eachother? The reason I ask is my "times" were based on a bystander's wrist watch. If I was turning 1:44s with you I'm gonna be extremely happy. Let me know if you don't mind (if you can recall your times during the last and second to last session).
thanks,
Jim
