Amatuer input here... I have an 89 DME and an 86 DME (I wanted to try early chips I had access too) that I can swap out, plug and play in my 89 Turbo. The chip sockets are different but the units are swapable.

Can you say "stand alone engine management opportunity"?

Ummmmmmm more than that. You will get some money for you KLR unit and old harness, and air box / AFM etc . Call Neil at performance developments. He can get you a quote, or check out their site. I am surprised you dont have one already actually. Huge flexibility.

’89 DME have a different program in the chip. This program is designed for the bigger turbo which can be found from S models. I suppose also KLR chip has a little bit different program than a non S KLR.
Since these ’89 chips are not designed for your configuration you can’t get the top performance of your car

Edit:
OK just saw you got a lot of mods on your car. If you are using chips designed for these mods, then you have no problems. Without the chips these DME & KLR boxes are the same on ‘88 non S & 89 cars
