I installed a GURU Version 9 chip kit this spring, and just got back from emissions testing. The car passed with flying colours once again. It has passed the two previous years with Autothority Stage 2 chips in it. BC has a dyno test for 1991 and older cars which measures emissions at 25 mph (2nd gear) and idle. My results were:
25 mph test:
Hydrocarbons: Mine: 42 ppm Max: 90 ppm
Carbon Monoxide: Mine: 0.14% Max: 0.74%
Oxides of Nitrogen: Mine: 16 ppm Max: 1,083 ppm
Idle test:
Hydrocarbons: Mine: 25 ppm Max: 108 ppm
Carbon Monoxide: Mine: 0.02% Max: 0.82%
I maintain that the chip has little or no effect on passing emissions because the car is running in closed loop mode off the oxygen sensor. I have had similar results with both the Autothority Stage 2 and GURU chips in the car. Other tune-up and maintenance items are critical, though.
