Unhappy Diameter of Stock Flywheel and Fidanza

re: 86 turbo

Well.....

I wasnt thinking and I didnt take into account that the reference pin should be at a specific height on the flywheel.....was only looking at orientation on the flywheel.

SO to make a long story short.

Need to now. Either.....

1. Diameter of Stock Flywheel and fidanza flywheel ..........
With this I can set a new pin . (the stock was set at 5mm) ... but as I recall the fidanza flywheel is a little smaller so I will need to take that into account when setting the height..........

OR

2. If anyone knows the air space distance from the reference sensor to the reference pin on the flywheel. Thanks......

Either way I should be able to set the new pin.

Thanks in advance.

As you can see below the fidanza flywheel had the pin almost flush and the stock flywheel has it set at 5mm......... Unfortunately the flywheel is now on the car.......... so its going to be fun.

The fidanza is smaller. I put centering bolts through both wheel's mounting holes on a flat surface and brought a speedsquare up to the OEM wheel - then brought the Fidanza'a out to match. Started first time.

If only I would of thought of that when the flywheel was out of the car.

Oh well live and learn.......... I will have to back it out ~5-6 mm.

Since the speed sensor is set with a 0.8 mm clearance I am assuming with the stock flywheel the reference sensor gets the same clearance. So I will set both to the same clearance.

Now I dont think that pin can go out that far...... I guess we will know when it falls out.

special tool......

Thanks for the PM and reply.

1. Do you recall how much thread we had to work with?
2. Was it an allen or torx?
3. Does the bolt stay tight even after I back it out?

I will need to pull it out at least 5 mm. But I am thinking closer to 6-7mm since the diameter of the fidanza was smaller.

Thanks again.

You need to use thread-locker on it to keep it in place. I would suggest getting a longer bolt and using a nut as a lock-ring to keep it in place.

Another idea is to double-up on the figure-8 spacer on the speed-sensor. This will allow you to drop the bracket holding the sensors closer to the flywheel. That way, you don't have to back out that trigger bolt as much. But I think the bracket is already pretty close to the lowered end of the adjustment range.

I am waiting for a reply from fidanza to see if they have the dimensions on that bolt before I start pulling it back.

You are right danno. I tried using a washer that was 2.5 mm thick on the speed sensor and as you say in effect getting the reference sensor closer.... Unfortunately it was still too far.... I may try a 5 mm and see if I get a signal.

Here is the info on specs on the screw for the fidanza flywheel. (from tech support)

"IT IS A 1/4" 20 X 3/4 SET SCREW. IT CAN BE ADJUSTED
WITH A 1/8" ALLEN KEY. WHEN INSTALLING MEASURE THE
SENSOR FIRST WITH A VENIER CALIPER THEN MEASURE THE
DISTANCE FROM THE MOUNTING SURFACE TO SET SCREW. ALLOW
FOR.030 CLEARANCE. MAKE SURE THE SET SCREW GETS
LOCTITE ON IT."

So I have 3/4" to play with.... so I will get at her and let you know how it goes.... should be pretty straight forward now.

IT RUNS.

The pin for future reference is only 3/8 inch long.....

I used a magnetic allen key to fish it out ....

Then added some loctite and placed it back in. The spec on this sensor is the same as the speed sensor. 0.8 mm.

I had to make the pin stick out approximately 6mm from the flywheel.

After that I used an old sensor with a 0.8 mm washer on it, put a little white grease on the sensor tip.... inserted it in.... keep adjusting pin until you have no touch.... a 1/4 turn at a time. once you have no touch....
turn back 1/4 turn ... you are now done.

She fired up on the first try.

Here is a pic of my now running engine.

Thanks guys for the feedback.
