944 shifter rod same as 968?
Hi all,
I purchased a rolling chassis of a 89 S2 race car that was running a 968 and a 6 speed.
It came with a 7.25" dual disk 968 aluminum flywheel/clutch/solid torque tube, but no shifter rod.
I am using a 5R transaxle with the 968 torque tube so the shifter rod should be fine using it from a 944, right?
Thanks
Pete

the rod is about 15mm shorter in the 968, We have done quite a few 6 speed conversions and have had to remove about 15mm from the length of the shifter rod

So the shifter rod is the same besides the length which the above poster said about length ( which I cannot verify since I do not have a 969 rod)
I can say that the shifter rod probably has to match the transaxle being used.
My combo of a 968 torque tube and 944 5R transaxle, the 944 shift rod works perfectly..

No there is another difference, on the 944 rod the threaded section at the back is on the rod itself, the 968 rod has no threaded section on the rod but on the shifter linkage attached to the gearbox. Its an easy work around, you just drill out the 944 threaded section a little so that a new bolt fits in perfect and does up against the thread in the shifter linkage.

Took this image of the internet, says its a 944 turbo rod. Are you talking about where the bolt is sticking out? Sorry if its a stupid question, I have not been under the car to look.
