Installed waste gate shims today to make it so that I can hold 15 psi. Still can't.

i went to the guru site but there's no wastegate there. is there another site in which he might have put it? how much does it cost?
i'm also hahing a 3 in exhuast done for the car, taking the cat out. also would it be bad to remove the muffler and just install a tip with my set up?
i'm here in germany and according to insp. there is no need for a cat just make sure there's no leak. what would you guys recommend for a muffler in case they say it's too loud?

Gents,

does anyone know what the stock boost pressure for a euro 1991 951 turbo S (factory shipped with 250bhp) is? I am asking on behalf of a friend who wants to upgrade his stock wastegate with a 38mm Tial, and doesn't know which spring pressure to get.

Thanks for the assistance

Best regards

Emilios

The stock boost for the M44-52 engine (KKK26 #8 turbo) is 11 psi (0.75 bar), which is held to 5800 rpm. Above 5800 rpm the cycling valve (CV) starts bleeding oof boost, but the factory does not give specs on how quickly the boost is lowered.

No difference between Euro and ROW.

Just email Danno direct about the wastetgate. They are 190$.

I jsut had a custom 3" put on (no cat) and I went with a Flowmaster muffler. It sounds pretty throaty, but not to much. Nice roar in the high revs.

Todd,
Remember that you have that "mystery turbo" not a stock k26/6. So your results will not be the same as his. I do agree that Danno's WG are similar to the Tial, as they bleed off the same boost as the Tial I have now.

We can't say that a new WG will solve his problems, that is not a definitive answer. I have the same problem of not holding boost untill redline and a new WG did not magicly fix mine.

I will try this and report back. btw, If anyone can tell me how to get the line off the cv that runs from the waste gate I would appreciate it. Thanks.
Just go to the firewall and cut it and splice in the line coming from the reliaboost. You will then want to plug the line to the CV and the line from the banjo bolt to the connection on the metal tube that it was on. Cap it just to keep you from worrying about it being open.

Default stock turbo and guru wastegate

Hey guys. From my experience, the stock turbo is more than adequate to blow 15 lbs to redline. Your injectors will go static before the turbo gives out. The wastegate is the weakest link on an OLDER car, but I have a stock wastegate that is rebuilt but un-shimmed and I hold boost up to 17 lbs to redline (or until the fuel cuts out). I have a question about this Guru Wastegate everyone talks about. Anyone got a link to it or some details? Is it a reman'd stock gate or is it based ona Tial or something. Thanks

I appreciate all the help, I will try to run the line down there and see what happens. I was told to keep the factory line dangling for the time being. Am I endanger of vacume leaks if I cap off my maf?

The Guru wastegate looks to be a lightly re-manufactured stock unit with new springs. The body is still rusty but the diaphragm bulb got a fresh coat of black paint. Mine didn't come with hardware but I replaced all that when I reinstalled and it looks good.

Here is a picture Jake951 sent me of his Guru unit.

Jason_86_951:

Very valid point, however, his drop off seems to be in addition to any drop off the stock turbo would suffer. I have seen many people shim the stock wastegates and see little to no help at all, due to the level of deterioration of their particular wastegate/spring.

Also, when he bypasses the CV, he will loose even more boost.

The GURU units are rebuilt stock units. Also, I know Danno mentioned at one point in time doing dual port rebuilt wastegates also, for $250. Not sure if he is still doing that though.

I have a 46mm tial but had noticed the boost dropping off at redline from 17psi down to about 13-14psi. I replaced the vacuum lines with Lindsey's kit for another reason, but then noticed that boost hardly drops off at all (down to 15psi+). The kit is cheap enough at about $35 or so.

Just a quick update, I took my cold side intercooler pipe off and checked all the connections and boots. Then I checked all my vacum lines and connections on my maf. All is good. I can't figure it out. OH and I am hering a bit of a wistle. But that may just be the nature of the Maf kit. Any other suggestions. I will be bypassing my cv tomarow.
