I am trying to break my Parts car's engine down to the bare block so that I can use the block in my turbo engine build. I have the engine out of the car, and I cannot seem to get the clutch bell housing off. I did a search and I found a few ancient posts about it. I read that the clutch fork must be removed first. I have been prying and wrestling the clutch fork for a long time and I don't have a clue how I am supposed to get it out. I also tried removing the flywheel allen bolts that are visible through one of the holes in the housing. I thought I might be able to get it all off as a unit. Well, I stripped one of the bolts, so scrap that idea. I'm at my wits end here... any suggestions? Iam considering taking a metal cutting blade
to the housing.
to the housing.

You leave the clutch fork in the housing. Just remove the pivot axle for the fork. Then remove the speed & reference sensors on top as well. A good procedure for a clutch removal can be found at Clark's Garage

The speed and reference sensors and bracket have been removed. I am not sure what the clutch fork pivot rod is, so I doubt I have removed it. Please explain what it looks like.

The pivot shatf is located at about the 5 oclock position on the bell housing.
There is a hole with threads in it. You must screw in a bolt in it to remove the pivot shaft. Use the bolt as a pulling tool.
But you need to remove the bolt that has a locking nut on it. Just above to the right of the starter. This bolt lock the pivot shaft i think.
It very weird the first time.
I just did my first ckutch job last night and it slowed me down alot that dam pivot shaft.

Also due to the tight clearance with the firewall, you need to rotate the bellhousing about 30-45 degrees before it can slip off the pressure-plate. The next time I do a clutch job, I'm just gonna yank the engine! Takes way less time than working on it from underneath!

The Engine is already out, and I still cannot get this damn thing off. If I have to do a clutch job on the 951, I am definitely going to pull the engine.

You will have to attach a bolt to the end of the shaft .............
PITA bolt. I then attach a visegrip on the bolt ... attach a 10 lb slide hammer......... and hammer away....
Once your remove it, the clutch fork that is being held up by the throw out bearing comes loose...
HAVE FUN!

Joe... I see you liked the video clip by the new quote in your sig![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I'm definitely not looking forward to replacing my clutch in the future... Hell I'm not even looking forward to replacing my S-10's tranny in May. I think that has more to do with working on a gravel driveway than anything else though, but whatever.
Good luck on all this bro, and be sure to post pics of the car when you get a camera. Hey... see if you can't find one to take pics of the clutch removal via engine removal for us, could ya?

Kev- LOL, yeah I have downloaded almost every Chappelle Show on Kazaa.
I messed around with this for another hour or so until I finally had to make good on the cutoff wheel threat. This was very funny and also informative. I sliced off half of the housing and got a nice cross sectional view of what is going on in there. Now I understand what the hell everyone was talking about. I will have to do it again (the correct way) soon on the turbo engine, since both my turbo engine and my parts car engines are out. I will try to find a camera so I can post pics of how this removal should work. Its one of the more frustrating procedures I have done on any of the Porsches.
Pics soon!
