I'm pretty sure i remember reading that leaded gas was ok as long as you don't run a cat, i was at the track and filled up with 110 leaded octane, is it safe? Most guys at the track seemed to think that it was actually better for the Turbo etc, any thoughts?

It will clog the O2 sensor as well. But if you take it off thats fine.

You can get an 02 simulator, a device that simulates the output of an O2 sensor. Of cource, if something does happen to the car that would suddenly make it run lean, you'd be in some deep ****.

Yes we do have cat. and we run unleaded gas on street cars or some race cars

Thats because when european cars didn't run the cat, they didn't run the O2 sensor. THe two are linked, you need the O2 sensor to get the correct AFR to the cat.

Now back to the original question: Leaded gas is better for the engine, if you have no cat & no O2 sensor. (As in early european cars).
This lead stuff has originally been put to the fuel to grase the valves and valve guides.

Hmm I tought that they didn't have a cat. So basically you would have to manual adjust some you don't run rich on cars without an O2 sensor. Man I was planning running leaded fuel once I move back to Europe.

So you never had an O2 sensor from factory? How about a cat? Wouldn't it run rich then? Did they mess around with the DME to make it think it has one?

There are three fuel/ignition maps in the DME for use in different countries with different equipment. You can choose the appropriate one with connectors close to the DME. Look in the factory manual for your specific year model. If you don't have a cat you could just as well use the a non cat setting which do not use the oxygen sensor and gain some power from slightly more aggressive timing.
There is no benefit from using leaded fuel if you don't think polluting is fun.

I don't know about that. The older cars with soft valve-seats needed the leaded gas for lubrication. But you sacrifice the rings from the deposits it leaves. If you dyno a car on leaded gas, you'll find metallic pellets behind the exhaust. Not sure I'd want that stuff going through my engine...
