Default Interior Door Handle Cable

So when I was putting my car away for the winter I went to get out of my car, pulled the handle and instant zero resistance and of course the door didn’t open. So I rolled down the window, opened the door from the outside, and finished putting the car away for the winter. Of course a sad day and I didn’t want to deal with the problem at that time. I pulled the door card today as the winter is coming to an end and I wanted it to be ready for the season. I discovered the cable came off some little **** at the latch assembly. It’s hard to see in there but I looks like the loop at the end of the cable just goes on this nub. It seems to work good, but before I put it back together, am I missing something? Should the cable loop be captured somehow to prevent it from popping off again? I didn’t see any broken bits inside the door that would indicate it is supposed to be.

So no one knows? Unfortunately all that I can seem to find on the internet is how people talk about the exterior handle breaking and how to troubleshoot that.

Glen! Thanks! Looks like the end does just loop on and maybe it was just a fluke that it popped off especially over years of being pulled on. I guess I’ll do some probably much needed lubrication to the lock assembly and windows while I have things opened up.
