Hey guys,
I need some ideas of what can be making this noise.......[noteI just recently had my head serviced on]
Its coming underneath the manifold by the #2 #3 spark plugs, around that area....its like a chk chk chk chk chk chk sound........best I can describe it.
Its been doing it for a while now and it gets really annoying........any idea of what it can be?
I have a bad fuel inector and it idles hard on morning or cold starts, also on cold start it speews out a good amount of liquid out of exhaust.....may be realted???
.........any ruff ideas?
Thanks for the help a super ROOKIE like myself appriciates it.

It could be a lifter tick. Try some of that stuff to get lifters unstuck.
and to state the obvious just in case, check your oil level.
As to overheating,
You almost certainly have air trapped in the coolant.
Just bleed the air out.

You can get some fancy oil additives to "unstick lifters."
I've never tried them myselves, but it seems others have mixed results.
[edit: wow, I wonder what freud would say about that typo]
Bleeding the air out of the coolant is easy.
Just have someone rev the engine while you loosen the 12mm bolt on top of the engine to let the air out. Do so until water flows then tighten it back.
This is probably one of the few things that actually *is* in the haynes manual if you have it.

It's the rough cold idle that would make me nervous, plus the exhaust liquid might be a symptom. I had a replacement gasket go bad within a thousand miles last year, but that one was copper. The stock one has been fine since then.
There was someone else recently with the same symptoms. Not saying it's that, but keep it in mind.

I will try to get some of that lube for the lifters.
Its raining here so as soon as It stops I will bleed the cooling system.
Thanks for the advice.

951_t,
I am having / have had similar symptoms as you describe them. I haven't yet figured out whether in my case it is a head gasket, or something less expensive![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
How is your coolant level? Are you losing any coolant? Or is it hard to tell because your expansion tank is all yellowed and you can't see the level? (That's what happened to me before I bought a new tank)
I used to have a problem with the temp gauge going up almost to the red when idleing for a longer time. After bleeding the coolant thoroughly several times, and replacing the expansion tank with a new one, this is now fixed. Do a search on cooling system bleeding, there are some great tips on how to do that on the boards here. Also, if your expansion tank is very old, I'd consider replacing it. The tank actually has a small check valve built in that regulates how much coolant circulates around the turbocharger. On my old tank, that valve had gotten stuck, and I think this greatly contributed to my 'running hot' issues.
Where in the Bay Area are you located?
Best,
Gary.
