I need to get a new set of front tires for my 951. I am currently running 255/40/17. I found a pair of lightly used front Hoosiers but in a 245/40/17 configuration. Will I have a problem with the tire being too small for the 17x9 rim I am running up front. Thanks.

I bought a set of 17" cup wheels and used 275 hoosiers were still mounted on one pair so I figured, "what the hay" and ran them on the rear for ... not one... not two...but FOUR driver's ed. events. The brand new Victoracers on the front (go ahead and laugh) are almost worn out and the Hoosiers don't look any different than the first event. Wanna know why? 'Cause they're hard as rocks! Let's just say I've had my hands full catching the rear end coming around. It was really great when the track temps were 50 degrees and it was raining.

The trick with Hoosiers is to run them the first time, come in, and hose them down with cold water.
This will make the Hoosiers run as good 4 track days later as the day you first ran them.
This trick was told to me by the guys that installed my last set of Hoosiers which was the tire shop located at the track (Willow Springs International Raceway).
It works.

I always have read/heard that for heat cycling to be effective the rubber had to cool and then not be reheated for at least 24 hours. The rapid cooling/cold water approach is an interesting twist.
