I see, I thought you had just installed a new head gasket. Yep, good time to upgrade.

Your probably gonna pull the head and find nothing, which will make for some intense first few seconds when you crank that baby up for the first time. Hopefully it gets resolved with no trouble. By the way, Danno (Guru Racing) carries metal headgaskets, you may want to contact him about it. Good luck matt!

P.S. where exactly are you on this project? how close and assembled are you to that first run where you dump all your oil around the block? just kidding, I'm sure you covered all points thoroughly. Do you have any recent pictures, or want to take some?

I know Danno does offer the HGs, I appreciate his work but communicating with him can be difficult and I am on a short time table. I am pulling the gasket this weekend while my wife and puppy are out of town (just me and the big dog, I will finally get some sleep!).

I was getting pretty close, this is a set back. I am going to put a bunch of it together this weekend. I am calling Chuck at Paragon in a few minutes than I am going to try PD for the gasket, then BAT for the oil cooler and a company in Houston for the injectors. Hopefully that is all. I will snap some pics when I get the head off.

Matt H.,

Just so you're clear on the rules for Cooper Cup (TM) submittal requirements, your lack of knowledge and happenstance has to lead to other desctructive consequences during the repair. So, unless your mystery washer scores a cylinder or blocks a coolant passage leading to overheating, simply dropping a retrieving a washer doesn't count.

Plus, it requires bodily injury during the repair. Shedding blood is not necessary, but helps to score more points.

I don't have a copy of the Cooper Cup story, but I'll try to dig one up. I encourage everyone to read the saga of the Cup's namesake. Entertaining reading if you have either 1) made a mistake working on a car and paid for it, or 2) just have a warped sense of humor.

Jerome - I have not retrieved said washer, this .85 cent part is going to require removal of the head. I think that sucks enough to at least get me to the qualifying round.

Ah, just so happens, I can help out those looking for information on the Cooper Cup...

www.coopercup.com

I guess I should get off my duff and actually update that thing. Perry is no longer a "nominee", he's an "awardee" of the Cooper Cup altho he hasn't been officially notified nor has he received any sort of trophy/plaque/sticker/t-shirt... Another thing, everyone always talks about "blood sacrifice" whenever the Cooper Cup gets mentioned, and that actually isn't required OR recommended!

Wrench carefully!

Regards,

My wife might kill me if I commit to a hardcore wrenching session, unless your wife is available to distract her with some shopping or whatnot... I am going to have to probably pass on spending too much time in the garage, even tho I would love to. Will let you know if anything changes.

Regards,

I was joking, my wife is out of town. I appreciate the offer. Wanna take installments on the 968 wing? :>)

Hey, I'd love to be able to help, spinning wrenches is my "therapy". My wife thinks I am spending too much time in therapy tho...

Matt,

I looked in PET to see if it shows a washer there. It only shows one of the bolts (which has a washer), but says that the head uses 6 of the washers, which I believe refers to 1 for each of the 2 bolts holding the adapter to the head, and 1 for each of the 2 bolts holding the neck to the adapter, and one for each of the 2 bolts holding the other neck onto the back of the head. So, bottom line, I think both bolts are supposed to have a washer. Now, as to whether your car had the washer, and where it might be now, it's your call....

Go to the hardware store and get a couple of small magnets that you can tie to a string.

Sometimes the extension wands with magnets can't bend or reach where then need to go.

Just a thought,
