951 Aftermarket Fuel Damper alternative?
Hi all -
First a huge thanks... I’m relatively new to Porsche ownership (‘86 951). I’ve been having a blast rebuilding... pretty much all of it over the last year and have found this forum really helpful.
I’m hoping someone can help me with a fuel damper question...
The only ones I see available are OEM/NOS for $400+. Pelican lists a Bosch for $100 or so but it’s never in stock. Is there a cheaper alternative to the OEM? Like “get one the fits a “X,” it’s the same thing?”
Or do I just need to suck it up and shell out the money?
Thanks in advance.

I recommend getting a LR fuel rail setup with their dampener. I’ve had two stock fuel rails leak, not good. So instead of spending the $ on a stock dampener spend it on an upgraded fuel rail and dampener setup. It’s cheaper in the long run, especially if your car has a potential of catching on fire due to a fuel leak.

The damper is currently not available from bosch at the moment through the wholesale suppliers used by pelican etc. Porsche still has stock, which is where pelican is getting it from in this case, hence the $400 price tag. Many 944 parts are getting increasingly hard to find new and are having to go through the dealer for parts. Never thought a brake bias valve would be hard to get either, but alas, also only available from Porsche.

Thanks for the research. I’ll try looking at venders per MAGK944’s suggestion. After that I’ll look at Lindsey. They rebuilt my head and turbo and I’ve been really happy with them... but I was hoping to find a “stock” unit as I’m trying (for some reason I’m not entirely sure of) to keep the car “stock-ish.”

lots of other cars (Japanese mostly it seems) also used dampers in their systems, sometimes mounted remotely (off the rail).
almost none have a vacuum provision though but not sure how important that really is aside from "fine tuning" the damping.
go to rockauto and search "FPD" and see the options you can try with some imagination.

All automotive manufacturers only have to produce parts for ten years from the last run of the ending production of their vehicals. So they did pretty good for us now that is 28 year after they stopped making the 951’s (Europe had 90 and 91 models). And that’s why we truly appreciate vendors like Lindsey Racing, Speed Force Racing, and anyone else who makes aftermarket parts for these cars.

I would also suggest the Lindsey Racing fuel system bits ... well made and trouble free !
Seen too many race cars go up in flames due to fuel rail/system failures ...

I have a question about Marren Fuel Damper (Part @ MFI-0201) which is being sold by Lindsey Racing. Is this fuel damper operated by a vacuum line?
I am asking because I do not see a connection for vacuum line on that damper.

I have a LR rail with damper,a buddy had clearance problems so another buddy helping with way more brain power than I said the damper was old tech(removed it) so he reconfigured the fuel lines. His system dose not retain fuel pressure in the rail or injectors unless running, to me that's not correct but don't know enough.
