Arrow Cold start leaves black on drive way from exhaust

what up Guys,

This is yet another problem I have with my old 944t,,

On cold starts I leave my car up to warm up and all the time it leaves a excessive black stain on driveway that seems to spray out of the exhaust.

Every since I had my 944 fixed from bent valves it started to do this, I am assuming its gas spraying out of the exhaust. Also if pops and knocks when I finish driving it before the tear down it did not.

On another note--- when I was tearing down the engine to get to the head I accidently damaged one of the fuel injectors, the pin in center of the cap on the injector broke off.

heres my questions...

1. What can the black spray from exhaust be>? and possible why's?

2. Can the damage fuel injector be related?

3. Can the knocking and popping be related?

I know its a tall order thanks again guys,

Fred

Everything you stated can be caused by excessive fuel. It would be a good assumption that your injector is the problem.

I have a complete matched set from mine... All work perfectly. They would come cleaned with new seals and "hats." $90 if you are interested.

I had a feeling it was the injector but, I am a retarted when it comes to Mechanics.

I did notice a slight difference of gas mielage change, it seems to not last as long.

So I guess I should start by replacing that injector huh>?

.....anybody got one for sale?

you aren't gonna be able to buy ONE injector (new) for less than $90.

and i hate to be a pessimist, but if a $90 repair is out of the question, you should sell this car NOW before anything _important_ breaks.......

One would get you working but it is best to have a matched pair, that way all the pistons are getting the same fuel and air. If you don't one could be running way Lean or way rich (like in your case). If it is too lean for too long you could cause damage to your piston and or valves. I'm sure somebody has just one they could sell you.

I hear you Its just that at the moment I am unemployed BUT hopefully soon I will not be..........there is not that many jobs for web designers anymore.

I have had bent Valves before, so now I have to keep my 951 no matter what..............although I hjave a feeling this car will be the end of me one day, but oh well I love taking those turns fast.

I thought the black spray on start up was in conjuction with water residue in the exhaust system sitting over night. mine does it usually in the morning on start up but not after a rev or two it seems to be cleared out. I seem to remember a post on this not so long back with many people saying they had this after a big run or under hot temps. Could be wrong. But thought it best you here a different opnion
