Congratulations on the pass Ed. It looks like your 951 passed with flying colors. I think you have a good point too. Since California is getting more strict I'd like to do the performace mods on my car that can still pass inspection or at least be fairly easy to return to stock for when the inspections roll around.

I guess the ease of returning to stock would vary for each person. I have neither the experience nor the tools so any work I do to my may car take me longer than others. I guess the more I learn about the mods and the more I do the work myself the easier it will become.

I would still like to get more performance from my car in a smog legal package. Realistically, I guess it can happen but it would drive the cost of the mods higher.

From what little I know the only thing I heard on this subject is that from an
emissions standpoint (i.e. not a visual i.e. changing the intake, a must if the
turbo is to changed) is that if you change the injectors to 55 it is virtually
impossible to pass. The good news is a 55 with a new turbo, wst and intake
will take you to a new level. Of course it goes with out saying your engine
mgmt would have to change (DME, KLR, either chips or the whole boxes). If ,
and this is a big if, one could revert back to the stock boxes or chips, would the car still pass ??????
Changing the boxes could be easy IF it is just using the existing
connectors at the top of the stock boxes .....
but like I said I am clueless..... :-)

" if you change the injectors to 55 it is virtually impossible to pass."

It depends upon the kind of systems you're using. My latest GURU MAP-1 kits have no problems passing all the checklist points for visual and emissions testing:

With correct chip-mapping, it passes smog with stock 35lb/hr or aftermarket 55/65/75-lb/hr injectors, all from the same chip! This kit should be good for 310rwhp from stock TurboS (dyno-test coming). I'm running 83-lb/hr injectors on my car and had no problems with smog-testing. It comes down to whether your chips are mapped correctly for the hardware you've assembled.

I screwed up. I was told that if you went above 55 you wouldn't pass
in CA .. but that might be if you are not mapped in
The guy said that if it was above 55 there would be no way to hold back on the fuel ..
What I really wanted was to go w/ a bigger turbo wstgt and air intake and hook
it up to a link2. but if this isn't gonna pass then I might be going your way ...
Thanks for all your help
Ed
Ps I had be reading these boards for quite sometime and remember
reading about the personal **** you went thru. I can't express to you
how I felt for you. All I can say is that TRUST ME when I say, I know what
you are going thru. I have a 6 year old son I will be raising myself because I
was stupid enough to believe a 3x divorcee . I shouldn't just be seeing a
shrink but a brain surgeon ...:-) We will get thru this and be stronger for it

Danno, I think after I get all of the reliability/functionality issues (i.e. - oil leak, groaning wheel bearing, etc) taken care of I'll be giving you a call. I need more power to fill a void in my life.
