Default bottom end rebuild in progress.

well, after spinning my rod bearings, and presumably destroying the crank, my bottom end rebuild is about to get under way. are there any snags in the procedure that i should look out for/take extra care when performing them?

If you are taking the engine out, make sure you take the oil pump apart and clean it well and put it back properly. Use all new rod bolts and preferrably new crank girdle bolts. Obviously go back with new bearings. Make sure you didn't mess up the big end of the rod so have them checked for roundeness and as a strong suggestion go ahead and have them all resized to insure correct tolerance and roundness.

Replace the main bearings as well unless you know they are ok and recently done. Put in a oil pan sump baffle if your sump doesn't already have one. Check your oil pickup tube carefully for any signs of cracks.

crank may not be toasted, might just need to set it up for dif. size bearings?

btw if your crank AND rods are toast, well, now's a great time to go stroker (not that i know ANYTHING about that problem)

If your crank and rods got toasted, I would look for damage to the cylinder walls as well. There's a chance that foreign metal could have scored the cylinder walls. If that's the case, you'll need to overbore and get overbore pistons to fix the problem.

Which means stroker + big bore... might as well sleeve and get 3.2L!
