Default Creative Exercise: What Would Singer Create if They Re-imagined the 944 Turbos

They'd never touch one (unless I win tonight's Powerball), but what would a company like Singer do to a 944 turbo? Understand they're not overly wild, and in fact they are kinda updated-retro with many of their builds.. So, using period correct hardware, with a modern update, what would you envision as the "ultimate 944 turbo"?

Have to say, when I read the title, I thought you meant Norbert Singer.

Is Singer the Co. that had the spot on Leno's Garage with the custom 911...?

If so, me likey.

I always liked the look of this design sketch from the Porsche Museum, I thought it looked like something Singer would make.

Stock body, stock nose. I'd go with the Euro driving/fog/city light combo. 17" Fuchs 8 and 10". 968 turbo S adjustable wing. Alcantara dash, pillars and headliner. Leather seats with color coordinated stitching. Suede steering wheel. Lloyds mats with color coordinated lettering. Leather seats, with 356 era grommets. Rear seat delete. 10 speaker system with amp, Porsche Classic headunit w/ Nav. 3.0L turbo, carbon engine panels, MoTec management. Big reds (color to match) with full floating, drilled rotors. Triple adjustable Ohlins, with 968 M030 bars and 4 wheel coil-overs.

What did I miss?

Their cars are created entirely from unobtanium with God's precision craftsmanship.

It's an interesting notion, and hopefully it would come out better than the $200,000 951 that has been viral https://news.yahoo.com/restomod-1989...203549724.html

One thing about Singer 911s is that they take a 90s chassis and recreate it into an era that is 60s to early 70s, which is appropriate because of the long production run of the model. So to me, a 944 done in this manner would have to stay within an appropriate time period for these cars. So I'd be looking at early 924 and 928 interior touches and paint/graphic schemes, then also looking at the period motorsport cars. I could envision taking a really well modified 951 (or 968 chassis to use the latest version like Singer) converting the body work to Carrera GT spec (or an even slightly wider custom version of the flares like Singer does) with super high level paint in snazzy 70s color. Then add ultra high quality interior in a custom color of Pascha or Silver Rose interior pattern (or all leather embossed in those patterns), including covering the Recaro SPGs. Stanced with 18" Rotiform Phone Dials.

A few weeks ago I went to see my buddy who is a tech at our local dealership and there was a singer in the bay, it was amazing to see firsthand and first time I had looked at one in person. It is hard to even describe the detail it had. The owner paid 700kish up front and waited 2years. I should have taken some more pictures would love to see a 951 built in such a way Name: photo349.jpg

OP: great question, I'd love to see them do it, I can't imagine (reference to their tag line re-imagined!) the list of "things" they'd have to consider and make decisions on. Are there data/info on how many "things" they've changed (re-imagined) on the 911? also how about Urban Outlaw doing one. I think I read he's recently purchased one or two 951's?

My guess is Singer would keep the pop up headlights and make matching luggage for the under the hatch. And possibly mold a carbon fibre 968 rear body section on. And fit really wide tires and rims, at least in the rear. Powerplant: 3.0 litre+ mated to 6 speed manual trans.

I love this question. It's one that I have considered far too much over the past few years, and is the hopefully the basis for my next transaxle build. I think it would be the ultimate drivers car, not necessarily the most powerful. In my opinion it would not be turbocharged, which kind of rules out a 951 donor.

The way I envision it is a carbon fiber Carrera GT body on a 924 SE chassis, with no sunroof, manual windows, manual door locks, manual mirrors, no PS, no AC, no cruise control. Basically capture all that 70's goodness of the first 924s but with the best of all 4 cylinder transaxle components, while not losing the essence of the car... Which means keeping a 4 cylinder Porsche motor and pop up headlights. The heart would be a 968 3.0 twincam but with a few extra ponies to get near the 260-280 crank hp range, run through a 968 6 speed LSD. Naturally a lightweight exhaust and appropriate clutch/flywheel combo. Weight would be near 2600-2700lbs. Brakes from an early offset '86 951, with 17x8 and 17x9 Fuchs and M030 or coilovers. The interior would be classy, but simple and light with quality leather and square weave carpet. Recaro Rallye II style seats, rear seat delete, new RS style door cards, Momo Prototipo, and 931 green on black gauges. Who knows, maybe go crazy and paint some of the cabin carpeting areas in body color, with just the horizontal surfaces and cargo area having carpet.

My personal build would be Mexico Blue with black leather upper and tan basketweave accents over oatmeal square weave carpeting. One can dream.

I've seen quite a few Singers as I've been to every Rennsport Reunion since III. One cannot imagine the level of thought, engineering, design, craftsmanship and flat-out perfection in their offerings.

Love the responses so far, I'd like many more. What do you have for us?

Be careful what you wish for.

I've seen a few Singers in person. They're decent.

Basic suspension component design is still 50 years old and has acres of room for improvement. Porsche did some improvements on the GTRs but even those are now long outdated.

You could spend six digits on just the R&D of improving the suspension components.
