Default Rear view mirror broke off

I just got my 87 951 and the first thing that broke was the rear view mirror. I reached up to adjust the mirror and the thing just broke apart from the windshield. I was wondering how do I go about fixing it? When it broke off it took some glass along with it and now theres glass missing from my windshield. Will I have to replace my windsheild too or can I just glue it back on? And the other thing is that should I bring it to the shop to fix it or can I just superglue it back on or something? Thanks.

Join the club! My son broke mine a few days ago except it broke at the weak point before the square that goes glued to the glass. Anyway, the only thing I can think of for you is the fix kit they sell in most auto parts. I've never used it so I cant say it works well, but its worth a shot. I guess you have to go a little lower sinse you broke glass off.

Go to any bodyshop and they'll probably glue it for free.

It must have been broken and glued already. Worth a try gluing it again.

funny story,
when me and my dad were looking for a 951, we went to check one out nearby. Talked with the owner a little, nice guy, sat in the car for a test drive. First things first, buckle up, then adjust mirrors, my dad reached up and was starting to adjust the rearview and blooop, mirror fell off into my dad's hands lol. Great impression eh? Still went for a drive though, but we didn't buy that one.
