Default Racing alternator experiences?

I know there's a huge thread covering the use of a Nissan Quest alternator as a smaller alternative to the stock 944 alt, but my car is primarily track-focused, so I really don't need the 125 amps that alternator produces. Someone asked about the Nissan Sentra alternator - has anyone run that (it puts out 80 amps)? Or anything similar? I just installed a Weltmeister adjustable sway bar, and the clearance between the bar and the stock alternator (I've relocated it to the AC compressor's sport after getting rid of the AC) is pretty tight, plus the bar weighs a ton, so a smaller and lighter alternator would be desirable.

We ran a Chevy alternator from a Geo prism and converted it to a one wire self exciting deal. Made our own bracket . I'm sure with your skills you could make it work. Its literally 1\2 the size of the OEM. I'm going to convert mine at some point. Ours was on a sb Chevy.

I run the plain old stock alternator with zero problems.

I think the best would be to use a multiple alternator setup. Possibly three? One in the stock location and one or two off the CV axles. I’m totally not serious. I know some of you are thinking about it now. Oh lord...

Do you have it in the stock location, or down where the AC compressor usually lives? I have the latter, which leaves only a few mm clearance between the alternator any my new-to-me Weltmerister adjustable sway bar. I cut off most of the thread the protrudes from the back of the alternator, so I seem to have adequate clearance now, and didn't hae any issues at my recent track session, but a smaller alternator would give a little more margin. Plus, Weltmeister must have figured how to make a sway bar out of a lead alloy, because I could use that thing to warm up before a set of bench presses. I've worked so hard to take weight out of my car that adding so much back in just makes me cringe.

Cloud, Are you using an AC delete bracket for the alternator? I'm running a factory AC delete bracket and have a Weltmeister front sway bar. I've never noticed any parts being too close to each other. Is it something that could be adjusted with a different length belt? I'm not sure if the bar can be installed upside down, but it should dive down and basically follow the cross member's path as it goes under the engine.

Still sounds like a good excuse to install a smaller lighter alternator, but the parts shouldn't be so close that trimming is required.

I built my own A/C delete bracket, so that may be part of the "problem". I put it in quotes, because the alternator and the away bar actually have several mm of clearance, but, as you said, it strikes me as a good excuse to get a smaller. lighter alternator. But from what I gather, the options aren't great. The Bosch racing alternator is pretty pricey, and the other options seem to require a fair bit of fabrication. After all the work I've done to my car, I'm suffering from "fabrication fatigue" - these projects always end up taking five times as long as I expect, and it just isn't worth it. But I am shocked at how heavy the Weltmeister bar is, but at least the weight is down low.
