Default Speedhut *boost* gauges

Anyone have any experience with their mechanical boost gauges? Is accuracy a concern between brands? Is one mechanical boost gauge as good as another?

Thanks again,
Sach

Sach:

Mechanical gauges can be very accurate. However, get a quality gauge like an Autometer. They are very reliable. Summit Racing, Jegs etc. should have them. Very robust and seem to last.

i prefer VDO to autometer (looks more "stock" and just seemed better "quaility" construction)... a little pricier, but not terrible... or you could get a Greddy or similar (electronic, w/ a sending unit) - easier than running extra vac. lines thru the car, less things to pop off / leak / whatever, but significantly higher cost.

Suppose I'll nab an autometer mechanical then... Can't justify the cost of an electrical gauge. Sort of ridiculous price for a similar, if not same, function.

Best Wishes,
Sach

VDO mechanical with tell-tale. IMO the only way to have reliable data without risking looking elsewhere than on the road:

Autometer are junky...I've had mine for under a year and comparing with the digital reading of the Greddy Profec B Spec II, the autometer is at least 2 psi high on boost, and WAY low on vacuum (like 6psi)...(I guess better safe than sorry, but it is irritating knowing that it's off, particularly since I'm likely going to be ditching the greddy soon and I will now have to drop more money on a more accurate gauge)...I've heard questionable things regarding VDO accuracy as well, I'll likely go with one of the japanese companies for more money but with more confidence.

I have to agree with GeorgeK on the tell-tale! I have the AVC-R which has the peak hold function that I use all of the time.

I've got the Greddy Boost gauge and the EGT gauge both mounted in the piller pod. They are great. Expensive, but great! They look good too. Go digital if you can afford it, no lines into the cabin and super responsive. Greddy, from my experience, is a top notch name.

Autometer Lunar here, electrical so I can install the MAP sensor right next to the manifold tap for max accuracy, calibrates itself every startup so it's accurate at all altitudes. As long as the car's electrical system is good, I much prefer electrical gauges.

You should consider an Omori boost gauge, much better quality than autometer or Vdo and very accurate
