I have the borla cat back.
It fits perfect, looks good from the back.
I have never had the car without it so I can't give you great comparisons.
It is not loud, and makes a slight hiss when cruising (I like this sound)
My trunk is gutted, so I'm also not sure how audible it would be if I had carpet.

Hey Dirk, Do you have any pictures of your Borla? Even a picture of the tip would help.
I bought a cat-back for my 951 last Sep. at the annual swap meet at Sunset Porsche. I think it's a Borla. I asked the guy if it was, and he didn't know - it came on his 951 when he bought it. There are no markings on it, but it has the trademark Borla double-walled/finned exhaust tip.
I have done several web searches for images to no avail.
Sorry I don't have any pics of mine to post.
Thanks in advance.

The best pic I have is the third one at http://metaloft.com/pics/951/
Mine has a straight single walled tube, and also has a huge "BORLA" on the muffler.
Sorry, I guess that isnt of much help

Dirk, Thank you. Actually that does help. At least I know mine is not a Borla. Plus I got to see some pics of a really cool red 951!
I haven't hooked mine up yet, but I heard it in the guy's car at a few DE events before he took it off. Pretty quiet, but he had a cat (I don't). It looks extremely well-built: mandrel-bent, lightweight, nice welds, etc. If I get some pics, I'll post them to see if anyone can ID the animal.
I have a line on a wrecked 951 for parts. The guy built a cat-back for it with a Flowmaster Series 40 muffler. I heard that one before he wrecked it - it had a really raw, wicked note.
If I buy the parts car, I get to try both!

I was thinking of getting a cat back made by an exhaust shop, but wondering if anybody had it done and what muffler to use, cause I don't wanna look or sound ricey

The Borla XR-1 muffler seems to be pretty popular, TonyG has like 3 of them in his exhaust, about $150 or so at Summit Racing I believe. Do a search and you should find more about his setup. Of course I don't think he has a cat which would take the place of at least one of those mufflers in keeping it from getting too loud.
I don't think you'll get too much riceyness out of it as these cars are much larger displacement than most of the ricer crowd with 1.8 engines. Now, although you can rice out a Supra TT, I've heard some dang wicked exhaust notes of out them....sounds like a V8 or something!

I don't have a cat either and its not loud at all.
The sound with and without the cat isnt very noticable.
With the borla, you get a bit more rumble down low, but other than that they sound the same.
