Default Turbonetics 60-1 hifi turbo

Any of you guys running a 60-1 hifi with a #8 housing on a 2.5L? I got one for my 951 project but still haven't installed it. I am installing SDS enginemangement, Tial wastegate & Blowoff valve, short runner intake, 65mm throttle body, 67lb injectors, Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator, Spec Stage III clutch, etc. I am currently running a very similar setup on my 2.0L 16v VW with a T3/T4e .57 trim Stage III wheel with a .48 ar. My VW made 330whp had runs consistent 11.7 @ 122mph 1/4 mile. I am switching to a Garrett GT35R on the VW and was considering selling my new 60-1 HIFI to go with a similar Garrett Ball bearing turbo on the Porsche. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

So, are you selling the 60-1? Or are you trying to decide whether to?

At this point I am trying to decide if I should try it or sell it. I wanted some feedback from some guys running this turbo. Hopefully from someone also running standalone. If I am going to swith turbos, I would rather change now than later. I am hoping to make at least 400 at the wheels? Considering what my friends and I are making on our 2.0L VW's. (highest being 540whp) I think that should be realistic. Also if someone can give me a tip on posting some pictures, I will post some of my motors. Thanks

Did you make that intake yourself? I would be keen to give it a go... any specs?

Keep the 60-1hifi

I run it. It's probably one of the best compressors ever made.

It will support 550HP all day.

A 60-1Hifi/#8 will whip around 4000 rpms on a 2.5L engine.

Love that intake. It appears to be an early SFR version? Would kill to have one, life would be so much easier.

The intake on my VW I made myself. 6" runners with internal velocity stacks and a 3.5" plenum. The one on my Porsche is a SFR one. I ordered it but am not too happy with it. It is welded a bit low on the runners and requires running the NA upper radiator hose for throttle body clearance. It is a simple consturction with a square aluminum plenum welded to shortened factory runners. Would be very easy to make yourself if you have some tig welding ability.

Thanks TonyG for the feedback on the turbo!

Yea, I know Kevin. He lives about 70miles south of me. I am in NE PA, near the Wilkes Barre/Scranton area. He is running 9.9's @140. Actually, a couple of times he has helped me tune my scirocco on the dyno. Last time I talked to him he was finally getting some sponsorship help from NGP in MD.

OT, but any idea how even the air distribution is across each cylinder with that intake? How much more than stock does it flow?

SFR claimed the intake was equall across all 4 runners. As for flow, I'm not sure about how much of an increase. I mainly got the intake because it cleans up the engine bay a bit and makes accessing the turbo a lot easier.

As for the original topic is anyone else running the 60-1 hifi? Also, will the standard 60-1 compressor housing w/ 4" inlet fit without relocating the alternator?

According to some of my recent studies on the subject, that intake does not offer the optimal distibution of air to all runners equally. The Lindsey one is somewhat better. The Milledge unit would be better yet.

C(now I'm trying to figure how many banks I need to rob to get that one)K

I agree, there's no way flow can be equal to all runners on that design - whether or not the difference is significant is another question.
