Default A/F Meter, Boost Gauge Placement?

Hey guys, I need some input -

I am getting ready to place both of these gauges in the cockpit. My question is, what would you do, a dual plate holder in the cubby under the radio, or the A pillar pod setup?

I think the cubby plate is cleaner, but may not be as visible under accel., etc.

TIA

To see the gauges down there, you will have take your eyes off the road and look down. Even then they will be almost completely obscured by your arm on the steering wheel, if not by the shifter. Put the gauges on the A-pillar where they will at least be in your peripheral vision all the time.

John,

Have you done it? Do I expect any issues with getting the mechanical conections to the gauges in the A pillar pod (as opposed to the cubby?)

Thanks,

I've got a boost gauge, wideband display, and MBC **** mounted on a plate under the radio (in that cubby space). Since mine is a street car, that was the cleanest, easiest place to install. For the driver to look at the boost or wideband you have to take your eyes off the road - so I only glance at them when the coast is clear if I'm by myself or I have the passenger keep on eye on them if we're tuning. If I were to do it over again I would probably move the boost gauge to an A pillar and put the wideband somewhere higher up so it's easier to see from the driver's seat. If you want to keep a closer eye on your gauges, put them where you can see them with just a flick of the eye (like an A pillar pod). The cubby mount (like I have) is neat, clean, and looks okay, but is not optimal from a functionality perspective. If you're going to track the car at all, I'd definitely say A-pillar over cubby.

A-pillar. The install is easy. Check my profile for pics.

pillar pod. much easier and safer on the eyes. Sorry the photo is so big but it gives you the idea.

Its really personal preference. I have mine in the 'cubby' under the radio. I think the Autometer AFM would be to distractive if it were on the pillar as a street car. If I tracked the car, then I would prefer the Pillar mount.
Plus with my interior being maroon, I would never find a pillar pod that matched.

That's my situation as well. I have the burgundy interior and black for that one part alone would look mighty strange. Probably could have it dyed, but it would likely never match the interior the same as the rest of the parts do and that would detract from the overall appearance of my very well setup interior.

I have an AF and boost gauge in a custom made pillar pod. It look great and gives better flow in terms of instruments. I have white faced gauges everywhere and it looks more consistent having them close.

Yes, I've installed the LoTek gaugepod (http://www.gaugepods.com/). All the wiring and tubing runs under the dash and then inside the A-pillar. There's an opening on the side of the dash at the bottom of the A-pillar where you can run all the lines up the A-pillar interior to the gauges. It's very clean looking as one of the photos here shows.

Thats the same road I am now going down. Buying the a pillar from Lotek and sport comp autometer boost and a/f gauges off ebay. You can pick them up amazingly cheap and they still carry the warranty.

I went with a VDO gauge, just like that it was closer to factory in terms of brand. It is cheap also.

No, it's wired to a pressure solenoid that if activated, turns on the light. It can be set from 14 to 20 psi. I have it set at 16 at the moment, since I'm back on good ole 93 octane and 15 psi; just keeping an eye on boost levels. The solenoid is the same type that one would use for water injection indication.
