What did you do with your original 951 drive train? Have you sold it?

The engine is sitting in the corner of my garage on a stand. Not interested in selling, someone may want to take the car back to stock in the future.

Well, last track day of the season was Saturday, then we got snow on Sunday, and then my fresh rims and tires arrived, so I guess I’ll have to wait til spring to try them out!

Had a few wet track days this year which was unfortunate, but did allow me to slow things down and feel out the new engine setup and get used to things. Saturday was cool, but dry! Was able to finally push a bit harder. The car is so fast now, it's really a bizarre sensation, I'm sitting in the same car, the handling and brakes are the same, but the gas pedal is totally different. And it's not like just upping turbo power on the stock engine, the power delivery and character of the engine is so different.

I’ve run a staggered setup of 8” front and 10” rear for years, but as my driving has gotten quicker I feel like I’m lacking some front end grip. Moving to this setup of 10” all round should give me some more front bite and allow me to swap wheels between front and back between track days to even out wear.

Despite the general hatred for these builds on Rennlist I’ve had a few folks PM for more details. The full build thread with lots of pictures and details is here:

Had a chance to scale the car on the weekend.

In 2016 before the LS2 swap my car weighed 2942 lbs.

In 2019 after the LS2 swap my car weighed 2935 lbs.

Other changes since 2016 include a fibreglass hood (weight savings), Enkei rims instead of 993 Hollow Spokes (weight savings), 265 width front tires instead of 235 front tires (weight gain) and 996 GT3 front calipers and 330mm Cayenne rotors (weight gain). Both measurements were taken with a 1/2 tank of gas.

I'm sure that there are some purists out there that think a LS powered 951 is blasphemy but I think it's a great idea. You and some of the others that have done this conversion have inspired me to follow in your footsteps. I have an '88 944 that I have already put 951 suspension and big brakes on that will make a perfect candidate. I have scrounged most of the conversion parts and I have a LM7 5.3 that I am going to install. I hope to have it done by the end of the summer.

Finished up a couple track days already this season. Picked up a lot of grip from fresh tires (AD08R) and the wider front rims (265 up from 235 since switching rims to Enkei from 993 hollow spokes). LS2 continues to impress and also gets interesting reactions from folks at the track.

Got in a couple track days over the last few weeks, best way to waste a summer day!
