I just got a Spec II to use with a Tial 38mm wastegate. After reading all this......I'm seriously considering sending it back and going with a simple valve type boost adjuster

If I didn't have 5 projects going that keep demanding cash, I'd have dropped the spec II already and gone with a regular boost controller myself, but I guess it'll have to wait.

I used to have one (sold it to myswiss) and I liked it. It held boost very well and once set up, was very consistant. I used good 7mm lines throughout and also t'd off from a single signal to feed both ports of the wg.

B951. that is exactly how I have mine set up.with 1/4" or 6mm line (as per Tial instructions). My previous Profec B (non spec2) worked realy well, but with the spec 2,I find myself reajusting the setting all the time.
Can you give any imput, that could help
Thanks

Steve,
I can not remember my exact settings, but I never really had a problem. I know that gain and boost start interacted pretty closely, sorry I can't be more help. I ran mine with the stock WG and Tial 38 and it worked well with both.

Yup, I'm running 7mm svh (very thick wall) and it was perfect until I disconnected the actual head unit then reconnected while doing the radio work. I'm starting to wonder if the harness connector at the unit might be slightly loose, I don't think it's a blockage or leak, as the boost reading on the profec stops at 13 when it's missing, and the power output feels comparably low, so I don't think it's just a mis-reading...

I took Greddy's advise and tapped a new vacuum/access port for the NC inlet side of the valve unit. I installed it at the bend in front of the banjo bolt in the intercooler tube. Tested the car and same crap...25 plus psi. Wicked power though, that SFR stage II Garret ball bearing turbo does spool up fast. I know it's not the wastegate 'cause it's a new Tial 46mm unit which replaced my modified dual port stock one. It happened then also. I have too much salt on the roads now, but I will switch the inlet from NC port to the ON side port just to see what happens. I remember reading that the original Profec had to have the dip switches set that way, opposite of what the manual stated for external wastegates. Guess the Jap cars ran integral wastegates. If all that fails I will reinstall the manual boost controller , see what happens with that. Gotta find instructions for that to confirm the fact that it installs onto the Tial opposite of the stock wastegate. Any input?
