Default Ignition issue -starts after multiple key turns??

I have recently encountered a new problem. After turning the key, the ignition only turns on power but nothing to starter. After 5-10 tries, the starter turns and all is normal. What should I look at? Battery is fine.

thanks!

You mean the key only spins the motor on 1 out of 10 tries? I'd suspect the ignition switch itself... They go bad occasionally.

Do you know where I can find instructions on how to test or replace it? Thanks!

Clarks-garage.com is a great resource, see the ignition switch write up here:

I'd test the starter too, it's probably as likely as anything assuming your battery/charging system is good.

had the same issue last week, turns out to be the starter.
took it out and tested the wires to see if i getting voltage when the key is turned and i did.
bench started the started and found that the solenoid is the culprit.

Good to know. I unhooked all the wires, cleaned the connections & put some elect grease on them. Started fine this morning but will monitor it today after it sits for 10 hours. Hoping some old corrosion was the culprit.
