Default Purpose of this hole?

Cleaning the block and noticed this hole...seems to go right into one of the oil pan bolt holes... Does not seem right. Should it be filled?

Can you take a second picture showing whwre the hole in question is on the block? Looks like it' at the pan rail area.

If that hole is the other end of the oil pan bolt hole, you could put a dab of silicone sealant in to keep debris and moisture out that would otherwise get to the end of the pan bolt. I've never looked at that hole on my block but know I've seen it before. Leaving it open really wouldn't do any harm either. For its purpose, it may have been part of the process to make the block.

What ever happened to that blue 944T that was so quick when I saw it/you there years ago...?

A line from The Pretenders, Tattooed love boys (80's band): " changing tires......Upstairs girl! I shut my mouth up and he showed me what that hole was for....."

I miss the 80's heheh

Jaime

Could that just be a small defect? does it go through and through?

While blowing the image up it seems too irregular to be purposeful. A dab of high heat silicone will prolly fix this......

LOL. I stuck my pick in it and it came out of the bottom of the block in one of the oil bolt holes. I will take another picture once I return home from the holiday.

Hey! I left that shop a number of years ago. I now work at the Corp offices of the brand with 4 rings. I'm guessing that car is sitting at the shop with a bunch of stuff stacked on it. If I had to bet money but I haven't see it in several years. Hope you are well!
