what part is this?

Default what part is this?

I am helping to remove a bunch of the wiring from a 87 turbo and there is an orange box inside the passenger compartment just behind the glove box is has a part # of :
944-618-217-00

I do not have this itme in my 86 turbo and the car will not run with it disconnected.....

anybody know what it is and how to eliminate it?

Ok thanks, I just confirmed that with a parts book, It is the air bag control unit.. Now I just need to figure out how to defeat it....

If I get the circuit diagram correct pin #4 in the Air Bag Control Unit connector goes to terminal 86 on the DME relay. As I get it, the ABCU supplies +12 v to activate the DME relay. If this is correct you can bridge pin #3 (black/white cable), which should have +12v switched by the ignition key, in the ABCU connector to pin to pin #4 (black/red cable).

Be aware that this may be totally wrong and testing it may burn something up! I've just glanced at the circuit diagram. You should somehow verify this before you test it and even then you should use a small fuse on the cable used for bridging the terminals.
