Scott,

I have all the bolts out and I can pull it away about an inch or 2 before it gets caught on the oil pickup...do you still recommend the rubber mallet method?

um, no... are you getting hung up on the baffling inside the pan? If you force it once its up, you will most likely break the oil pickup tube.

Adrial, I had the same problem. I just moved the oil pan a little bit and angled it such that it freed itself from the baffle. Should not be a problem at all.

Well I ended up removing the pickup which then freed the oil pan, works for me.

Well you beat me to it, if you remove the three bolts holding that rod, it rotates and the oil pan just comes off.

Any pics guys?

I'm still debating on wheather I should do the bearings now or wait. I'm leaning more towards wait. Any suggestions? I doubt my car was tracked, but I know its been driven hard.

After getting the oil pan off with the engine on a stand, I can say it would be a huge PITA to get it off with the engine still in the car.

I just did my rod bearings not too long ago with the engine in the car. It was definitely a PITA, but not that difficult. In fact, replacing the bearings was the easiest thing to do, once you remove everything else and support the engine from the top. If you are going to be doing this without pulling the engine, make sure you stay VERY organized because there will be a lot of bolts/nuts. Also make sure you get brand new rod nuts. Do not reuse the old ones.
This is also a good time do do the oil pan gasket, lower balance shaft cover gasket, and the motor mounts.

I just finished doing mine this weekend with the engine in the car. Not bad at all and I don't have any experience and I did it all myself as I can't find anyone interested in cars around here. I did the whole job with no outside help except pressing the control arm bushings out. My car is not driven daily though and the entire job including ball joints, p/s pump, control arm bushings, sway bar bushings, motor mounts rod bearings, oil pan gasket and vacuum lines took me about 20 hrs. Worst part was the crossover. I get frustrated easily and had to take day long breaks when that damn bolt wouldn't come out. Mine had 153,000 miles and looked fine. Number four was the worst.
